Where are you located?

I'm sorry that I have to keep asking people that over and over, but it is hard to help people get into the type of sailing they want if we don't know where you are. I mean are you in Alaska or in Florida, New England or Arizona?

MAry, he is from NY, Lake Ontario?

I am 24 and just learned how to sail on my Prindle 18 by reading a bunch of books on sailing and sailing last year on lake Ontario up here in NY.

Well, one way to look at it is to give up the Prindle and join the half-boats or buy a Hobie.

The other way is to become the catalyst for change - drum up other catsailors that are interested in open racing. Organize a regular race, maybe once a week on a weeknight. If your club itself isn't interested, be the one that starts a new movement in your club. Hunt down people within and outside your club that might be looking for the same thing you are. In essence, if it doesn't exist, try creating it! In the same 2 years that you are currently planning to become disillusioned, bored, etc. enough to quit cats you could be excited by the task of building up something new, and actually have something to show for it at the end of the 2 years.

In other words, don't ask "what can the cat-sailing scene do for me" - ask "what I can do for the cat-sailing scene"? You might be surprised what you end up with!

Just a thought.

Yeah, ok.

Sorry for the rant. I need an excuse, uhhh bad day (or something).

I did buy a sunfish to teach my girlfriend, sister and friends to sail on, maybe I’ll race that or a laser next year to get racing experience for my slug =)

Matt. It's 10 days to the Madcatter in Syracuse. Go to Fleet204.com and check out the Forum. There are people looking for crew. You can call Boat Works and have that boat traded in for a H16 or Tiger and be sailing in six Div.16 HCA sanctioned events this summer. There will be great food, great party's and probably a passing Rum squall. Then one day you'll wake up,be 40 and wonder why you still have not figured out this sailing thing. The only way to get better at any kind of sailing is to race against good sailors in large fleets. There will also be a guest expert program at the Madcatter run by Wally Meyers (7 time national champion). I think thats right.
You can learn more in this one weekend than you will in the next 2 years sailing alone. You can also meet other people that live in the Rochester area that can help you out. Hope you can make it.
