Posts: 129 Clearwater, FL | So far there is only 1 F16HP and 1 F18 pre-registered for the JPOR. I know of 2 F16HP's that are not coming. If we don't get a commitment from some of the other F16HP's before the event, we will probably sail F18 instead. Posts: 129 Clearwater, FL | It is amazing what a little threat will do to elicit a response. By my count, we have 4 boats sailing F16HP sloop so far. Matt & Gina > Blade 16 Jennifer & Kelly > Taipan 4.9 Seth & Nancy > Taipan 4.9 Chuck & Mavis > Taipan 4.9 I checked with Hollis and he can’t make it. Matt, hurry up and make another Blade so we can have 5 boats for our own class! Jennifer Lindsay Taipan 4.9 #262 Tiger #870 | | | Men in the minority ?

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | I'd be happy to race F16, all I need is a boat and a crew...Matt, when's the next Blade going to be ready?
Hey, not that I can do JPOR but in the future, if you are all racing two up, could I also race solo with you? How do we score it? I know solo rates slower, I would be happy to race straight up. Getting crew is always a problem at my house.

Unregistered | Hey Timbo, don't be afraid to take on the F16 Sloops Vs One Up F16, it doesn't have to be slower. My results are 50-50 against sloops so far, somewhat wind dependant though, I have only beaten F16 Sloops under 15kts. Hope you get one soon. Regards Gary. | | | Re: Men in the minority ?

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | I like to race uncorrected time and I don't mind being the underdog if the Uni is rated a little slower than the sloop. I've been going nuts with the nice wind here on the lake and nothing to sail! Robi, get well soon and as soon as you are able, we can set up a F16 get together here in Sebring. I will warn you the wind is not too reliable in the summer. Usually light until the thunderstorms kick up some wind in the afternoon. It gets better in November when the cold fronts return. Every time I had the 5.5 fleet here there was little or no wind! Of course the next day was fantastic...but that's always the way. If you plan a regatta there will either be too little or too much wind, but the day before and day after your regatta the conditions will be perfect! I had a Dublin, Ireland layover last week and met with a great guy, Dermot Mangan, who was nice enough to take me to his sailing club on a lake. He has a Spitfire which is a 16' cat similar to the F16's but not built to the rule, I think it has a little more sail area. Check it out at www.spitfiresailing.org.uk Click on pictures, then go to the first of the two videos listed below the pictures and watch 3 Spitfires having a great blast run in 20knots! Anyway, it was about 45-50 degrees in the air and water, raining and blowing 20 gusting to 38...so we did not sail, hit the pub instead. I had a great time and can't wait to get back over to sail with them when the conditions are a little better. We need to do some kind of an exchange trip where a group of us go over to sail with them and then host them over here some time. I told them the water here in Florida is usually about 87 and they couldn't beleive it! But then neither could I when I lived up in NH....which is why I moved here in the first place. But back to the Blade...yes, I would like to get one and get back on the starting line, Uni or sloop...if Chuck will race with Lucy, I will bring Sara!

Hey Tim,
We have noticed the Spitfire a while back and since 2002 it is grandfathered into the F16 setup. It is a neat little boat. It does have some extra sailarea; about 0.5 sq. mtr. in the main, 0.8 in the jib and 0.5 in the spi but then is also carries some 30 kg extra righting mass if you know what I mean. Its Texel/ISAF ratings are just slower than ours, so on the whole I think both will be extremely comparable to one another. The fact that masts and hulls are of equal size means that they will handle pretty much the same. Area is not that important when say mast length is identical.
A few are coming out to Texel and maybe we can hook up with them.

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | I would think the extra weight would compensate for the extra sail area so they could race even with the other F16's. Kind of like the F18's have the big spin/small spin rule for heavy/light crews. It is a very nice boat. As soon as I can get an Amsterdam layover I'll be over to bug you for a ride Wooter!

Posts: 915 Dublin, Ireland | Hey Tim, Leave out the "great guy" stuff until we actually get you out sailing I do think that it is amazing that you can fly in from Florida on Wednesday morning and (almost) be sailing with us in our Club race on Wed evening - we'll make it happen next time. Wouter, Spitfire sailor, Stuart Gummer took 13th place in last years Round Texel even though he had shattered his boards crossing a shallow area. There were 4 Spitfires in the top 50. I think that the Spitfire sailors will probably want to hang on to their Texel number and try for high places. The 2 points between the Spitfire and F16 could make quite a difference to their results.

If that is the problem then I can kick it down to 1 point. Texel officials don't know how to round off properly and the Spitfire rating is 1 point to slow. It should be 104 instead of 105! (Seriously) Shall I do that, file a protest and such ? Nahh, unsportman like. If they feel that they need those 3 points difference to the F18's to win then that is fine by me. Gummer was 10 (handicapped) minutes behind winning in 2004. A good result but just sailing 3 min per hour faster (= 6 points) on THAT level is no small achievement. Humm, so maybe they are indeed wise to hang on to every handicap point that they can get. I wish him the best of luck. He and Rashley must be the best sailors on these fast 16 footers at this time. I am not sure which cat Stuart will sail in the Texel. He has been racing the new F18 HAWK most of this season.

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | I can`wait to get back over there but I must find a dry suit first! Maybe we can get a group of you to come over here, sail with us in the warm water. The Gulf of Mexico water temp was 87F (30C) yesterday, air temps close to 90. All you will need to bring is shorts and a T shirt!
I`sitting at the hotel computer in Sao Paulo as I type this at 7pm eastern time, I hope to be back in Atlanta by 7am and home by noon...
I will try for some Dublin layovers and Amsterdam in July. they are sending me to training for 4 days, June 24 so no traveling then.
