Need some opinions.

Do you prefer a really cool regatta t-shirt, or do would you rather get a polo shirt with embroidered event name on it?

Looking back at the various shirts I've received and enjoyed, It seems that there is a pecking order with regards to prestige of the event and the type of shirt we receive. Most large public and local regattas have standard t-shirts and most are quite cool. However, as the prestige level goes up, we first graduate to long sleeve t-shirts for national and big event (Performance Race Week, Tybee 500). Then we step up to shirts with collars for events like our Alter Cup Qualifier (thanks Nigel!) and to a long sleeve collared shirt for the Alter Cup itself. Obviously, there are some exceptions.

I have a ton of t-shirts such that we're searching for additional storage for them all. I like the idea of a polo shirt with a simple but elegant logo.

Yes, Tracie, we are searching for extra storage. That is, I am re-arranging the closet to give Jake an extra drawer for the myriad of white t-shirts that I fold in such a manner so as to be able to discern designs from the folded position, otherwise I'd have a wardrobe explosion on my hands every time either of us goes to find a particular tee.

So we come to my vote: polo or tee. Polo would be a nice change for this housefrau...break up the monotony and all. I'll even break down and get some extra hangers. Even nicer would be a color other than white...just for a change. Oh, and maybe one or two in Medium so that extras may be purchased by people who are not XXL? I always like to buy one when they're cool, but often have to wear them as a dress!

Hey, and thanks for asking!

A nice hat is good, too. Since I lose one about every other distance race, I'm running low on those "signature" red ones...

I'm pretty much over the shirt thing. I'm with Stank on this one, there is always room for a hat.

I find that XXLS run out as fast as the mediums. Hats are cool but sizes can be a problem there as well.

I think you should get what you like and fits your regatta budget. You can't please everyone.....

Hobie Alter Cup next year - we'll have those nice ditty bags made of sail material with the event embroidered on them. I love those but have never been in a position to offer them to the fleet before. It is good to be the King. Beer and Cheetos for all my men and wine for the horses!

Did I mention it was my last year?

Overall, I'm with Dave and Stank - new and unusual, as we've all got more t-shirts than we can ever wear.

I have a storage container of mostly Tee Shirts, a few sweatshirts, and two Polo shirts. My favorite is the polo shirts and then a "red" hat. Regatta budgets usually dictate the give-aways. When in doubt, run a good regatta with unique trophies, food, and then the give-aways.

How about boxer shorts? I like to sleep in those.

What about a dress shirt? Like a camp shirt. Button down, short-sleeve, rayon/cotton type material. Logo on chest area.

Then there's the old "Brag Flag" idea. I'm all for that, as it looks cool on the boat between race days.

Tracie,

I like the dress shirt or denim shirt idea the best!

What race organizer (other than the biggie) has that kind of coin? Those are like $15 a piece, right?

If it is for a National type event, a Polo or Dress type shirt is pretty classy. With minimal sponsor logos if you have to use those to subsidize the cost.

Boxers! Now we are talking! That's new, different and uniquely multihull!

Put me down for boxers.

How about the combination of "macho man distance race" and boxer shorts. Of course the last word will have to be left out for lack of print area ! Gives a unique twist to the hand-out clothing.

Envision something similar with respect to "Endureance Series" or the "Tybee 500". The list is endless think "Summer sizzler" and "frostbiting"

OK, I like the idea of boxer shorts. Now to name the regatta to go with the boxer give away. Hm, do you wear them on the outside during the regatta?

After the Machoman Ding strung up his collection of burgees - there had to be 30-40 of them and I thought that looked pretty impressive.

How about having a deal set up with a printer where the winners/entrants could choose between several items - shirts, hats, boxers, etc... Just ask what they prefer at registration and either give them out locally or include the shipping costs so the printer can ship them out directly. Once the printer has the design in the computer it should be easy enough for them to do.

Hi Tracie:

I have tons of T-shirts but I really like them. From an organizer point of view, the polo shirts and dress shirt idea gets a little more tricky because people start getting very picky about the sizes available; people will still buy a little bit larger T-shirt.

Good luck with your project. Jon and I are still nursing bad backs, so it may be a while till we see you on the Tiger or F-18 circuit.

Wyatt
