I am looking at buying a catamaran in the near future, but I am new to sailing so I have a general question about the Gemini 105Mc.

My understanding is that catamarans are not suppose to sink, is this the case with the Gemini 105Mc?

I have never read of the Gemini being "unsinkable" as some other boats are labeled (like the Etaps). Given enough wind & waves even these big cats can flip though. Overall, I think the Gemini is a good value for the money - they have made over 300 of them in the last 3 years so a lot of other people must think so too. You might also want to check out the Admiral 38. Catamarans in general make better cruisers and livaboards. No hull lean and space that is set up more like a house than a sub.

Click on the Main Index link at the top of the page and go to the Cruising Multihull forum. You will want to repost this question there as this forum is strictly for beachcats - Hobie, Nacras, etc...

Good Luck,

I delivered one from CA to Hawaii, and disliked it. The bridgedeck was so low it slapped waves constantly, and the dining table would jump up three inches or so and bounce the plates into the air! Overall the boat was so flexy in waves that if you stood in the doorway to the cabin you could feel the air whooshing in and out enough to blow your hair around. The engine is linked to a liftable leg where the prop is, nice idea to reduce drag for sailing, but a weld failed where the hydraulic cylinder attaches, so we had to lasso it with lines and lash it up or it would flop around. A lot of the finish work was terrible, the galley counter had a wavy saw cut where it mated to the fiddle, leaving little gaps for food and water to go down, and there were a lot of saw cuts where when they cut an opening they left little intersecting overruns at the corners like they used a circular saw. Keep in mind this is on a brand new boat not a used one. The biggest plus was the propane fridge, we had salad, cold beer, and could ice down the fish we caught, but they vent the fridge right out to where the helmsman seat is so on long watches it's hot and if the wind is right you keep smelling propane fumes.
All in all, I'd say if you are going to be sailing in near shore, fairly protected waters on moderatly short cruises it is an O.K. boat but where it really shines is sitting around on it at the marina....
