Hey All,

Heading to a regatta this weekend and anticipating short runs and light wind.I'm thinking about Super Slooping (if I can find my never used jib), my F16 but need a solo (modified)
PN ; how is this calculated?Additionally, does the F16's wider beam (compared to the T4.9), disqualify my representing the boat as a Taipan 4.9 at the registration ?

Warm Regards,

Paul

This is what I found for you.
Formula 16 Slp spi F16HP 65.3 69.3 67.5 64.9 62.3 (= 2-up)
Formula 16 Uni spi F16HPU 66.4 70.0 68.5 66.0 63.3 (= 1-up)

Do not take my word for it, I am sure others will chime in with the correct info. I do think that if you plan on sailing your T4.9 with spin it is considered a F16. Even with the thinner beams. The rules state "1.2.2 The maximum overall beam measured on the platform is 2.50 mtr. (= 8,2 ft.)"
Doesnt mention anything about having smaller beams, MAX OVERALL, being the key words.

I do beleive the T4.9 to be represented as a Taipan 4.9 it must sailed as sloop with Main and Jib ONLY and no spinny used.

Do not take my word for it, but that is my understanding.

Good luck this weekend! BTW! Does your boat have the F16 decals? If not let me know. I can get them to you before your regatta if you want them.

Thanks Robi !

I've actually got the US Sailing PN's just wondered if a weight "penalty" PN is assessed if you sail Sloop w/out crew...Additionally, the notion that my Taipan is faster in really light wind if sailed w/ the jib might be false anyway (thoughts anyone)...

Doc bought me some of your F16 decals and i've noticed the boat is much faster since stick'n 'em on !!!

Best To You,

Paul

AH yes, tell the Doc I said hi. Although I am sure he will read this reply.

[sarcasm]I am in the process of contacting the US portsmouth folks to propose to lower the rating on F16 with the wildergfx decals applied. It does increase the speed, specially on beam reaches. It is just something when the decal is under water, it creates a vortex which reduces the water fricting by a factor of 20% to suface contact ratio.[/sacrasm] so yeah ahm we need a lower pn number with the decals applies

lol

Robi,
Doc's a pretty meticulous guy (a good thing if you operate on human eye's for a living).
One of the funniest things i've ever witnessed was the expression on Doc's face when he realized a bubble ( the size of a bacterium),occured when applying my F16 stickers !!! I can only imagine how fast my boat would be without that Doc inflicted imperfection.....

PK -
I haven't ever raced it, but I figure since we don't have a minimum weight that there is no reduction based on weight. We always get burned the other way when all the other boats take their heavy weight handicaps so I figure it would only be fair In less than 10 - I think you would smoke - I have sailed in 15 and been fine - but you are pretty over powered upwind. But... downwind the boat cooks!
