Key Sailing I and II Join the Great Texas

The Great Texas Fleet is happy to announce that Teams Key Sailing I and II have entered the Great Texas Catamaran Race.

Key Sailing I (Old Dogs) will be sailed by Kirk Newkirk, owner of Key Sailing, and Glen Holmes from the Pensacola area in Florida. Key Sailing II (Young Guns) will be sailed by Harry (Boog) Newkirk, Kirk’s son, and Charlie Trinque also from the Pensacola area. Mark Smith will be a member of the road crew.

“We are excited to have the Key Sailing Teams joining the Great Texas”, said Steve Piche, commodore of the Great Texas Fleet. “We look forward to seeing who wins the battle between the Olds Dogs and the Young Guns! Earlier this week, Captain Kirk had been unsure if they could attend the race, however, after I promised to provide a cold case of Coors Light for Kirk and a case of Miller Lite for Mark at the condo in South Padre, they quickly committed to entering the race!”

Teams Key Sailing I and II are the 17th and 18th teams to enter this year’s Great Texas.

The 3rd annual Great Texas Catamaran Race will be held June 16-19. The race starts in South Padre and covers 300 miles in fours legs to Galveston Island. Registration is still open for the race. Out-of-Texas teams have until May 28th to postmark their entry to enter the race for a $275. After May 28th, registration will be $400. For more information on the race, see www.pisailing.com

You are so right; this is so cool! Kudos to the organizational team. Our summers up here are short and we're just setting up the boats now, otherwise I'd venture down for the trip. This reminds me of the Catalina cruise...
