Maybe someone can help me out here. I am trying to understand who is who and what is what when it comes to designers of the Ventilo 20. There seems to be several different V20 models.

Morrelli and Melvin's website claim to be the designers. Ventilo's website shows conflicting information.

When I recently inquired with Matt McDonald about the possibility of him building a Blade 20, he told me that the V20 is his design that he actually put on paper about 5 years ago.

I also wonder if the Hobie Fox was originally a Ventilo. And I wonder what Hobiecat is up to with the rumor of a CF Fox to debut at Texel this month.

I have seen a picture of a hull that Matt has in his shop

http://www.sefl3s.com/robi/blade2/DSC01993.JPG (bow)
and they have sterns that look a lot like the one shown here as "Ventilo 20' type 609
modèle 2001"

Anybody have any news?

Regarding Matt, I talked to him about this. I am sure he did not mean V20 as in Ventillo 20. I think he meant the V20 as in the Vector Works Inc 20 "V" short for the companies name.

The photos you attached is a photo I took of his designed 20, although that project may NOT go through. He was talking to Phill Brander about building a 20 foot version of the Blade.

Hope this clears something up for ya.

Oh yes, that really clears it up for me. I mistook V20 to mean Ventilo 20.

That was indeed the picture you posted on this forum.

Thanks for the update!

Hi Gary

Believe the proposed F-20 rules do as good a job in intent as possible given the current state of existing conditions and existing 20 ft boats in N A .

And believe a F-20 class for all the existing boats with 8.5 beam -and similar weights and sail areas will eventually emerge from the remaining boats and sailors that are not already in Formula 18s --Formula 16s or Formula 14s
--

Think you have hit upon the confusion -difficulty in getting F-20 going in N A .

Neither Hobie or Performance endorse a F-20 in the US -EXISTING BOATS ARE DIFFERENT --diffeent weights -sail areas etc -most do not wish to modify existing 20s --most US CATSAILORS expect to purchase a class boat specifically built to a Formula 20 rule

Current production 20s are all over the range of price and varying specifications .

perhaps H will build their new version to match the Ventilo FORMULA 20 ht or very similar to it to begin a lightweight larger beam production class F-20 in NA with readily available Hobies brands and others to choose from which again is what most US catsailors are accustomed to .

Sail 6000

have you had a look at the european iF20 rules?
Hobie. Nacra and Swell all built boats to this rule that competed well. It looked like the class was going to take off with guys that were too heavey for F18. Unfortunately, there was only space for one formula in europe and iF20 did not get going.
Nacra europe are now marketing the inter 20 as a one design which appears to be reviving interest.

Any link to these rules, and perhaps more info about what the class was about and was like?

Hi Rolf

Here is a link to the UK iF-20 info but have also heard that the Inter 20 class seems most active .
http://www.catamaran.co.uk/IF20/IF20.htm

At this point a revival of the B-Class concept seems ideal for those wishing to build or create new 20 designs and have a class and or classification to race within .

I can't find the iF20 class rules anywhere on the web, although I have them on paper.
If you contact Ron, who is the webmaster at www.catamaran.co.uk , he will be able to source them for you
