Posts: 223 Western New York | "RRS 40.2 Quick Release Harness" Anyone know if this is the ball/socket harness? These are the January 2006 IHCA rules. I'm wondering what these are... Wyatt | | | Re: RRS 40.2 Quick Release Harness

The Bethwaite system was certainly discussed and yes, I believe it was agreed that it would constitute a 'quick release harness'. Until the powers that be decide to give clear guidance though, I think we're all just guessing.....

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | The idea is when you end up under the trampoline of a turtled cat you can unhook and swim away I'm not sure if you are referring to the idea behind the rule or behind this particular spreaderbar / hook...but nobody really knows the idea behind the rule. It is certainly vague and I expect that there will be some sort of re-defining of the rule or maybe even the elimination of it in the near future. I also suspect that the rule may be more focused on a few dingy sailors that are literally tied to the boat in some continues trapeze systems. Whatever the case may be, the rule has definitely gotten us talking it and manufacturers working on how to safely and quickly get out our trapeze systems in sticky situations. I really don't see the benefit of this new Magic Marine contraption - the hook stays attached to the spreader after "release"?

Posts: 3,355 Key Largo, FL and Put-in-Bay, ... | Here is something to think about. ISAF is trying to implement a new rule for trapezing. The rule basically wants trap equipment to be quick release so people don't get stuck under boats when they capsize. Fair enough. However, since nothing has been invented yet that would meet their requirements, they are having to amend their rule.
A better fix. A mast Bob. That way the boat cannot turn turtle and no one can be trapped under the boat. If every boat on the water had a Bob, no one would think a thing about it. Tell you this, I love the Bob on the Wave and do not think it slows the boat down at all. Rick | | |
