Anybody out there know what the exact sheet length for a Hobie 18 Magnum Main Sheet Length With Harken 8/1 (57mm carbo setup).

I can find plenty of info on the stock Hobie 18 Magnum, nothing on rigging it with the Harken 8/1. I want to make sure that I get enough main sheet length so I am not running out of line while out on the wings or on the winds on the tramp.

Any help appreciated!

I would rather be sailing, than reading about sailing!

Just buy a hundred feet of cheap twine or cord and rig the boat on the beach. Pretend your sailing, cut the length that you need and measure it. Each sailor has their own preferances. I will get into the same issue next year as I just purchased a set of Mangum wings for my 18 as well.

Paul,
The Hobie Class rules only allow a 7:1 mainsheet for the 18.

But if you insist, DVL has the right idea.

Hi, I found that 10' more than the stock length was the magic number when I went from 7:1 to 8:1 on my H20. (If you think about it, you need the length of one more loop when your boom is extended out to its maximum downwind position.)

Sail fast, Wally

I would think Wally would have the right idea; it's just four more long loops, but then the boom is probably out five feet when you're going downwind; wouldn't that be twenty feet?

I would put the old mainsheet on first and see what you need on the new sheet.
