I'm tired of changing my battens from my fun sails to my racing sails; it takes me about 45 minutes. I think I should consider buying another pair of battens. Any advice on what to do or where to go? Which battens are the best value or the bang for the buck?

Even better, do you have a spare set you want to sell me cheap?

Wyatt

Wyatt, keep in mind when you buy battens, they should all come from the same run. If you want a consistent bend and shape, never use different battens, and if you can afford it(which most of us cant) keep the battens from the same production run. I understand you are looking for some battens for your play sail, but if you decide to buy new battens, try to keep these ideas in mind.

Dave:
Thanks for your advice. Actually, I was going to leave the old battens in the fun sails and buy new battens which I would shape for the newer stock Hobie 18 sails that I use for racing.

Now I'm getting more confused then ever because I never bought a complete set before; they always came with the sail. A local sailmaker says he can cut them for $202. An national cat dealer says cutting and shipping would be $285. Another dealer says he can order them for around $65 and could get them in two weeks. An on-line quote from another store is $50. Where do I go ?

Wyatt - If you're racing, are you racing one-design? If so, check your class rules first to see what is allowed. That may drive your decision...
