It was flying a hull on a Wave that got me into Cat sailing! I'd spent a week at a Carribean resort, scuba diving. On the last day I couldn't dive, so I took the windsurfer out - only to have it fall to pieces. So finally I jumped on a cat having never sailed before (as a windsurfer I could not stand the stuffy beurocracy inherent in most (UK) sailing clubs, so never went near them). I guess we had a F3-4. I sailed it like a windsurfer would - keeping it flat for speed, only to be told when I went back in that I should "keel" it. i.e. fly a hull. So I went back out in my last 20 minutes of the holiday to have another go, and this time I sat as far inboard as I could and that was that. Hull flew and I was hooked. I went home and within a few weeks had bought a Dart 16, traded a year later a Dart 18, another year and Nacra 6, and another year a Spitfire. A year later and I'm sticking with the Spitfire, but whenever I see a Wave (rare!) I have fond memories of that first day.
So get your weight inboard, sheet in and fly!
