Hey Gang,

Here's the January through July Treasurer's Report (YTD figures are in parentheses).

Gross Income:

New Association Memberships: $50.00 ($50.00)
New Individual Memberships: $280.00 ($280.00)

Total Income: $330.00 ($330.00)

Expenses:

Catamaran Sailor Subscriptions: $225.00 ($225.00)
Checking Acct. Service Fee (Jan-Jul): $35.00 ($35.00)
Office Supplies: $25.10 ($25.10)
US Sailing Membership: $100.00 ($100.00)

Total Expenses: $385.10 ($385.10)

Net Income: -$55.10 (-$55.10)

2004 Carryover:

Transfer to Rick: $2,000.00
Memberships: $499.15

Grand Total: $2,444.05 (Money In Checking Acct. $444.05)

Membership Numbers (YTD change is in parentheses):

10 Board (0)
158 Individual (14)
21 Multi-Year Individual (0)
1 Chapter (1)

As you can see, our membership has dropped off sharply. This can be attributed to a lot of expired memberships. Once sailing season has died down, I propose a mass mailing to remind folks of their expired memberships. I'm back in the swing now and will resume posting monthly.

Bob Blackington
Treasurer

Thanks Bob. I was getting ready to holler again. As you point out, there are some membership issues that should be addressed. Who in the board has responsibility for managing membership renewals? Is it the secretary? Am I right that this is managed from the NAMSA end and the Catsailor subscriptions get sent from there to Mary, rather than the other way around (i.e. Mary collects the subscriptions from her readers and sends you the NAMSA membership component)?

Mark.

Bob:
Those figures are probably correct based upon the information have, but you don't yet have all the information. While you were overseas, Gen was not sending anything to you, of course. Now that you are back, she will be sending you a list of all the renewals and new memberships since you left, and I will be sending you a check. That should substantially increase the membership numbers and the bank account.

Meanwhile, the current arrangement with Catamaran Sailor Magazine is still a very temporary one, and I need to meet with the officers of NAMSA to decide what they want to do in the future.

Mark:
Most of the memberships for NAMSA come through Catamaran Sailor. $5 of each $20 subscription, whether new or renewal, goes to NAMSA as a NAMSA membership. We send the names and money to Bob for NAMSA, and he sends out the membership cards.

A relatively small number of people join NAMSA directly, and in that case, Bob sends $15 of each $20 membership to Catamaran Sailor to cover the magazine subscription part. The figures he has shown above only reflect people who have applied directly to NAMSA for membership.

It is an unwieldy system but has worked to get NAMSA funded initially. Unfortunately, Catamaran Sailor cannot afford to continue to subsidize NAMSA.

I have ideas for how to proceed in the future, but we can't just drop everybody from NAMSA membership without notifying all members of the new plan, whatever it may be.

But it has to be done soon!

P.S. It should be explained that the $2,000 transfer to Rick was done so NAMSA could have operating funds while Bob was in Iraq. That money, minus whatever expenses came out of it (Tradewinds Regatta and mailing for the vote on districting) will be transferred back to the NAMSA checking account.

Mary,

Well said!!! I apologize for not explaining that the transfer to Rick was to keep NAMSA running while I was gone.
