I'll race any 20ft x 8.5 cat, any design any sail any weight any time.

I would not waste time arguing to gain some perceived advantage I would sail and find out if I need to learn how to race better

Is the object to make the rules fit specific boats or to race the boats we have and become better sailors (or better rule makers.)

Quit whining - lets sail. It is not bad to lose only to lose bad.

Hi marcreiter,

On your previous post, you mentionned a time diff of 7 minutes for one hour of sailing. Just imagine for every 10 feet you move forward, your opponent is 1 more foot ahead of you.

Sounds like a big diff in speed to me. Id' hate to think that many feel that this is fair and "fun" racing. Whenever a class is created, rules are designed to elliminate much of the whining that always seems to happen. Myself, I would hate to compete boat for boat against an M20 sailed by Daniels and me on a Hobie 20. Does the word horizon come to mind.

Pleasure sailing/racing is a different story ...

Love your attitude ... what do you sail ?

I guess I should be quiet and let the professional racers duke it out over the rules but I'd bet that there are many non professional racers that would love to race their boat and learn what it takes to make it go fast enough to be competitive. I consider it a pleasure to race and my ego is not attached to the boat or winning. All I would propose is that an open 20 foot class be created with a rules / handicap modification system like the constitution and that races be scheduled that I can enter and lose in now rather than waiting for the right set of rules to be created that give my Inter 20 an advantage. or that no Inter 20s will enter because the skippers feel that the rules do not favor their racing style. I do not believe that there is enough designed in difference in one 20ft hull over another that tunning and ingenuity could not make competitive with any other boat. that leaves sailing ability and if another boat is faster then I better make fewer mistakes at the turns.

I accept that I am an idiot. I have now read most of the posts in this thread. I now amend my post and will say:

I hope that the rules for a fair F20 class are ironed out soon and that it includes many different types of boats and that many races are scheduled. I look forward to modifying my I20 to be competitive with the best sailors and working on my sailing skills so that boat speed is put to good effect. PS.. if anyone wants to sail from Corpus Christi to Houston on july 4th & 5th I am putting together an informal race.
