Ok, I take it that you often sail in conditions where you are overpowered then, and have a double trapeeze? If not, I dont see much advantage to widening yor boat.
I suppose you will have to redo your beam-seats, as the new profiles will probably not fit perfectly. If you are prepared to do so, perhaps you should think about raising them as well. If you dont want to redo the seats, building some carbon beams might be an idea? If you are going to redo the seats, perhaps you can find a broken mast of adequate cross section? Anyway, you dont want regular alu, but some stiff and seawater resistent sections. I suggest you find some riggers around your area and check what they have lying around. Otherwise, you could buy a set of Tornado beams, or talk with the manufacturer of your boat and ask them about some fitting sections.
If you widen your boat, you will need new shrouds and strops for the forestay. Make sure the mast, mastfoot and shrouds are able to take the new loads!
Instead of putting on a set of new beams, have you considered adding some wings instead?

Hey Eric, I'd encourage you to go ahead with the wider beam. After 2 seasons with the SC 20, I'm blown away by the wind range the boat is comfortable in. You don't need to do anything with the saddles do you? What dia. tubing are you after? I have a set of telescoping beams, but I'm probably too far away to make it feasible. I do have a dolphin striker assembly you might be interested in.
