I've never been one for conspiricy theories, but just what is NAHCA trying to acheive with the Mega championship? I think it's a great idea to get all those boats in one spot, but don't you think it will horribly dilute the field in all the classes? The problem I see is the teams that are cross-overs( multiple classes) will have to choose where they think the most and best competition is. That leaves the other classes fairly lean.

Is it possible NAHCA is trying to weed out the less popular classes so in the future they only need to address the more, shall we say, well attended classes?

A little food for thought, or fuel for the fire?

Actually, as a member of the Host fleet for the 1998 hobie 16 NA's and the upcomming 2003 hobie 16/tiger NA's, I can say that NAHCA has been comming up short when it comes to fleets willing to host these events. I'm sure the MEGA concept was devised to allow the sites that continue to host major events to take an extra year off. It requires a 2 year head start to pull off a Continental regatta in the proper way.

Maybe your fleet could consider hosting an event in the future. The more places that can host these kinds of events, the healthier the class will be.
