I sailed today (October 18th) in shorts and t-shirt. A new late season record for me. The high temperature was 78 F. This is great for Minnesota. My previous record was Oct.13.
Now, I won't feel so bad taking in the dock. I guess there is a positive side to global warming.

HA! That's great, man. I'm jealous. It's plenty warm here but there are still several more weeks before I can get back on the boat.

Warm regards, Jim

Its only spring..and I'm already out of Sun Lotion. .
Have to stock up again for the next few months. Sorry.
just felt like 'rubbing' it in a bit
Enjoy winter..the closest I get to a 'white' winter/Christmas is on the television.

I too had a great late sail last Saturday. The lake temp is way up for this time of year, and the air was the same at about 62. We left our island and went upwind a couple of Km in 30knot winds, and when we turned back we couldn't see the island because of a heavy squall. As we hit the squall it began to hail - very hard! It was too windy to get under the tramp, so we rode it into the island under what felt like machine gun fire. That was a first for me. I'll be retiring the Hobie for the winter this weekend. As soon as the ice is strong enough we will have the power kites and skis out. (Last year we hit 60km/hr with Kite and ski)

Has anyone converted the H16 to a "SnHobie Cat"?

Mac

I think Matt Miller has a picture of someone going downhill on an H14 somewhere.

I wondered if anyone ever put blades on the bottom of a hobie hull to make an ice boat. I know this is probably not class sanctioned, and not having ice in Southern Ca., Hobie may not have thought of this, but they should be able to scream!

Maybe you would do best to take the hull off, and make some skates that would attach to the corner brackets? TnT

I just took in the sailboat and dock, today (October 20th). The water was not as cold to wade in as I expected, but its time to give up. (I just can't see myself getting a wet suit, it just ain't the same.)

I think the last time I was out on the Hobie was probably on the 8th or 9th. But I wear a wetsuit untill it's about 90* outside. I'm the wimpiest Minnesotan about the cold. The extra padding is nice when you get wrapped up in a shroud/trap line.

I'm boatless.
