I am wondering what makes the hull differences in my M6.0 compared to a M6.0xl ? What do I need to do to the regular hulls to make them handle the stretch to XL. Either that or find some older early nineties Marstrom Tornado hulls for the very nice package I just acquired. Its amazing how many parts are alike in the two boats and lighter too.I am using Taipan 5.7 AHPC rudders these also compare to the Tornados . Its a nice dilema. Also realized that Yves San Soucy of Mystere operated Sailcraft of Canada a while ago that would explain a lot. Any help appreciated.

I've read that the XL's have a little more glass around the main beam. I believe the weight difference between the two is ten pounds. Not much. I know Jeff Bowers uses both config's but I don't think his was a "XL". He would know. Do you know how to get a hold of him? I have his ph# and Email.

We just got back on line tonight . Catman if thats true then my dilema as what to do becomes a little more clear. I have everything to make an xl from the tornado parts I acquired beams bridles and trampoline. The problem I now have then is that I also picked up some old Tornado hulls, so old that they are set up with the tear drop rearbeams and a similar but slightly larger Mystere shaped fore beam and they use a strap system with 4 bolts protruding out of the hull at each attachment point. Now I am looking for the straps. I believe the hulls are made of Kevlar and hull for hull seems lighter then my old N5.2 hulls. They are signed by Ian Fraser of DART Fame and some others. This has become a real history lesson. Anybody know something about T-cat USA260 or USA151 both boats from as of recent S.Florida. thanks

Hey Bob, Here's some spec's on the 6.0 and xl. It looks like a 15 pound difference between the two. The Mystere site has changed but I'm sure I read that the xl had a little more glass around the front beam. I sent Jeff a email and I'll try to find out about his boat.

There was a Viper on the beach here for a while. It suffered a hull failure at the front beam. However I believe the boat was a prototype and was built light.

Wait a minute here! What is all this Tornado and Pantercraft talk? Isn't this the Mystere place? You have a Tornado? Did you sell out?

I will never sell out unless other circumstances are beyond my control. Gary I would also go on to say that the Mystere is much like the 4wd of the cat world. With wings and racks a centre board system that can operated from either side of the boat. In last years Steeple Chase I sailed straight through a sand flat about 600 yds long in a half an inch of water at one point with my wife . And the gaskets did not come off either (I made mention about the Gel contact cement from H-Depot it works). No, the only reason I am on this T-cat kick now is because those wide beams showed up and all the other Marstrom parts to make a complete tornado. The panther craft, now the secondary purchase has a different system of beam to hull. I still may be able to drop those beams on my boat for now. Gary I like reading about your adventures to the channel Islands that kind of sailing takes some skill and a trustworthy boat, not only one trip but many you have made. There really is not much difference in the two 20 footers in style ,just wieght. I do not know how the difference will be on the water but hope to find out. Cat man they have the wrong data for the 6.0xl and 6.0 thats the 5.0 specs . Thanks all the same.
