I am going to make a new trampoline for my Nacra 5.2 and was wondering if anyone knew where I could buy bonded polyester thread. From what I have read on the internet, it has very good strength, UV resistance, and ease of use. Opinions and experiences? Thanks.

Sailrite has what you need to build a new trampoline yourself. They might even offer you a kit if you contact them.

I would not use a heavier thread then V69 for a domestic sewing machine.

OK, another question. I just got the old tramp off and realized that I am not going to be able to reuse the old bolt rope. Does anyone know what kind of rope is used and what size it is (Nacra 5.2)? It looks like some sort of nylon (the edges are melted).

I had a some trampoline work done by my local canvas shop and they had some rope that was bonded to 1" wide material- so they could double stitch it to reinforce the edge of the tramp. Worked well- and this shop is very reasonable- sewed both sides of the tramp for $20.00!!

Ask an expert. I went to Sunrise Yacht Products of St. Pete, Florida, for answers. They make excellent tramps for cats large and small. Looking on their website and going home/product info/border material leads to this quote:

We recommend, and use, the Gore-Tex Tenara thread in all the exposed stitching on all of our nets. We do however offer Beach Cat trampolines with the option of a lower cost polyester thread. The Gore-Tex Tenara thread is made of 100% PTFE, and is completely impervious to UV degradation and other elements found in the marine environment. W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc. guarantees their thread will outlive any material it is used on. The importance of this cannot be understated, as any net with a border relies on the strength of the stitching to hold it together, and thread made of all other materials deteriorates in the sunlight at an alarming rate.

Guess that sums up the polyester thread issue. Don't do it!
