they usually do (as do we on the F18)...however, in that picture, the spinnaker is partially snuffed leading me to think that perhaps they are rounding C-mark. Downwind and during the spin dousing process, the skipper should be handling the main coming around C. He probably didn't ease the sheet enough - it can really sneak up on you when you go from warp speed downwind (with a tightly sheeted main) to slow while rounding the mark .. Easing the sheet is a bit couter-intuitive but you really have to ease the main a lot when you get 90 degrees to the breeze as you are making your turn.
