I recently purchased a Nacra 5.2 ( my first cat or sailboat for that matter). Its been great fun but I would like to keep it stored with the mast up. Where does everyone keep their cats in the Dade & Broward area? What are the fees? Where are the best places to put in around here?

Nuvoinc,

I can't help you much with stick up storage but if you ever need any help or advise with your 5.2, let me know!

Glad to see another 5.2 on the S. East coast emerge. Thanks to some extra hulls by Micheal C. I hope to revive another 5.2 in Delray. There is at present a 5.2 here. As for storage in Dade, Miami Yacht Club would be first choice and by becoming a member of CABB your notified of the events for catsailing in Biscayne Bay. In Broward you can contact Fleet 44 in Pompano Bch most of these guys are storing on the beach. Its an exclusive resort where you are shelled with 16mm guns as you make an approach , (Kidding..Bill, ,just Kidding). Otherwise you can try some of the rentals up and down the coast sometimes they will work out a deal of sorts, Good luck You can trailor on up to Delray sometime ............ Bob on Boat ! Whoops!! I should have given credit for that photo to Roy Laughlin. He has 700 photos available from Spring Fever at http://www.multihullsailor.com

I wanted to know if you had any pics of your jib sheet "set up"? I haven't met any one else in my area with a 5.2 and am not sure if what I have is working? Did you ever use the bridle foil and the larger jib? Spin?

Thanks

I emailed you some pictures of my jib setup. Nothing fancy really. I haven't yet added a spinnaker. I'm so happy with the speed of the boat right now, I don't want to add the spin just yet. I may do it at the end of the year however and I plan on purchasing an existing bridle foil from a stock Nacra 5.8 to reduce the loading on the hulls.

Mark Corby is in the process of new sails and a spinnaker on his 5.2. He's out west somewhere but it sounds like he's got quite a neat project!

Where do you keep it now? I would like to meet up one of these weekends to see how you have your 5.2 set up. As I said before this is my first sailboat and I am new to sailing so I am still trying to work out the kinks in the rigging.

Thanks

A number of sailors have suggested that we turn Rick's Place Motel and Sailing Resort into a Yacht or Sailing Club. And we are definitely thinking about it.

Seems the going fee for mast-up storage is aroud $90 a month.

After surveying our property (1.25 acres) it would appear that we have room for 44 cats and a number of dinghies in racks.

So, this may be an option in the near future.

Rick
