Charles,

Are you talking about Taipan 4.9 plans in general?

I have a set. Between building for myself and helping friends I have built several sets of hulls.

Regards,

Phill

Jim is probably a bit slow due to the flyer design. Anyway, a fellow builder in your continent had very much the same experienced. he has received his plans and is currently building his boat.

I have the plans and they are real. They were made without the help of 3d cat software and stuff but they are enough to build the boat from. But you don't buy the plans for the looks right.

Anyways, as I said; Somebody else is building the boat in the states and I'm hoping to finish my boat this summer and also Phill in Australia is building to the same plans.

So if you start building (which takes alot of committment) then you won't have to do it on your own.

If building teh hull is to much for any reason than a good alternative is to buy the hull and daggerboards and complete the boat from that. You'll be able to completely redesign the remaining setup yourself and I'm sure that quite a few us can help you with that.

I'm sending you an e-mail too. thsi evening or tomorrow so watch your mailbox.

The plans page had the wrong link on it, I have just corrected it. The correct address is jim@boyer-fibrecraft.com.au

Charles-

Yes, they are real- I have a set from 1998 and was going to build one at that time. Then I purchased a 1997 Aussie demonstrator when they started importing the boats.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help or answer your questions.

Hi there

I just submitted a new request to Jim Boyer with the new link.

I currently do not know if I will be able to build it this summer because since I went back to school, I have no building location and I really need to do a cost study on the project.

I am currently seeking summer employement on a few shipyards.

I visited one a few weeks ago and they were building a High performance 33' sailing trimaran and I was so impressed that it finally decided me to request the plans.

Also, I have a friend that will try to build a Sea Kayak in stitch and glue so we could do the work together.

Basically, I am looking for a boat with the same ease of use as the Hobie16 and enough performance to hang on with the big boys. If I capsize the Nacra 5.7, I cannot right it and since I am always running it solo, it is a big problem for me.

I am probably going to build it UNI because I really like the concept of an UNI boat with a kite on it.

Also, If you can tack a Nacra 5.7, you can tack anything so the JIB is not a big thing to me.

Chuck-

Not to discourage your building plans- But Michael has found several used Aussie Taipans for about what it would cost to build a new one (although not sure about Can import duties/taxes??), so if you wanted to get a boat sooner--

Let us know-

Hi Kirt,

Thank you for the information about the availability of used Taipan but the building experience is very interesting to me.

Also, I still have a catamaran to sail in the mean time

The thing that really got me started is the Tornado Sport page of Bundok and Forbes (the page seems to be unavailable now). The had many picture with the setup of their conversion to the Tornado sport with all of the rigging and I found it very simple

I feel that the Taipan is much closer to the Tornado than other commercial cats and I certainly want to take that path.

I stil waiting to see where I wil be working this summer but if the boat yard has a fiberglass and wood facility, I could very well build it this summer.
