I am getting really close to buying a Blade. Does anyone have one in the Washington DC area that would'nt mind me taking a look at it or possibly a test ride?

Thanks

Scott,

I think that our world map at http://www.frappr.com/formula16classgroup/map can help out here.

Looking at this map I think "Gordon Lewis Richmond (VA) Blade USA004" is closed to you.

Some basic calculations regarding the Blade vs my old boat (N5.5 SL). While not a completely accurate comparison (2-up vs 1-up; but I'll be sailing 1-up a lot), it is somewhat astonishing...

N5.5SL + min crew weight = 400 lbs + 280 lbs = 680 lbs

Blade + 1-up = 240 lbs + 155 lbs = 395 lbs

Difference in total weight = 285 lbs

Gotta make a BIG difference in responsiveness and a bigger emphasis on boat handling skills. Not a knock on the N5.5, I had a lot of good times on it - but a tribute to the Blade.

39 days to delivery.

I think you hit the nail on the head
I do not think you need more skills, it is more that you have to get used to the new boat. It is still not an A-cat of 75 kg ready to sail.

At this point, I am opting for the excitement of the spi/occasional double handing over the weight savings.

A-cats are wonderful boats, don't take me wrong. I am opting for versatility, always a decision that can be second guessed (but not any time soon).

Still 39 days to delivery.

Scott,
I live in Raleigh. Did you find a Blade to try ?
I`m interested in getting one in few months.
Maybe we can meet and chat.

Potential Blade rides available at Spring Fever in April. Please note the potential part of that statement. 2006 dates are April 14-16. See http://www.twinhulls.com/springfever for more details.

if I understood correctly: you got the plan and made by yourself. Can I ask you how much did you spend in total ?
I have gooood hands, no more wife (divorced), and I cannot work in my office 24 hours, so I`ve some free evening time.
thanks

You are confusing me with another South FL sailor. No I did not get the plans and NO I did not build the boat.

Although I am considering building myself one some day. Just not sure which boat to construct.

I doubt I will make spring Fever.

Contact Matt McDonald at Vectorworks Marine for the latest pricing. I'll PM his email address to you via this forum. You'll find Matt very knowledgable and willing to discuss the many options you have.

I hope to pick my boat up in late Feb/early March. I have some conflicts to resolve, but am tentatively planning on going to Spring Fever in April. It should not be a bad drive from Raleigh.
