PERFECT conditions for the third San Francisco Bay dinghy winter series race here in NorCal , USA ! Gusty , shifty wind , sunny (70 degree's on the water which is about 30 degree's warmer then summer on the bay...), two other cat's and an 18ft. skiff to race ! An embarassing capsize before the start fore- shadowed my trap line (3mm dyneema ) chaffing through the thimble and
" Pweeeingg - splash - *@#$ ", second bay swim of the day ( blah).

How do those of you who've swapped your trap wire for dyneema line, fasten it (thimple , ring , knot) to the mast and ring adjuster ?

Tied to a small steel ring on the forestay schackle at the top. The bottom is tied to the cleat for the trapeeze. Last 30cm is sleeved inside the cover of a larger diameter line to ease chafing. We have used a line with the cover still on, to protect from UV. This has lasted forever in our climate..

Phill,

I used the dyneeema on my T. We used the thimble at the top with the dyneema inserted inside the core about 150mm & then stitched with the sewing maching so avoid any slip. Same method at the bottom & never had a problem.

In fact i was so happy we were evenually replacing many lines on the boat with the same simple system.

Ie// spinnaker bridle for the pole, primary line for the self tacker, spinnaker strop at the top of the mast, mainsail down haul strops, primary tack line for the kite.

I started going a little crazy.??

Good Luck

Marcus

Welcome to the club.

Don't worry, the desire to do everything by dyneema and stitching is a naturally progression that occured with many of us.
