Can anyone identify these sailors and boats found decorating the walls of Kurnell Cat Club? Click on the images for a closer look.

Bottom pic is Bob and son Greg Wyers.

Bob is having a bit of a quiet season this year but was active in the Tornado Class and previouely Taipan 4.9.

His sone turned to Taipan 4.9, then Tornado along side me where he won an Oz Championships (without Bundy / Forbes in attendace) and now races an F-18 Capricorn alongside me.

I believe the other pics are of Bob and John Forbes who need no introduction.

Attached is John Veltmire and his smik Mossie named Smick and purchased from Bruce McArthur whome moved on to become a training partner for Booth and Forbes in the Tornadoes and now races A Class. He is also a Wagga boy like myself,

Hi Steve

Does John sail Smick at Kurnell?

There seem to be a few Mozzies scattered around South of Sydney now. They need to get together!

Use too, has not raced in the last 2 or more seasons but made a guest appearance (without boat) earlier this season and mentioned he is looking and joining us again soon.

This boat is without a doupt the best looking Mossie I have ever seen and probably the best home built catamaran also

Hi Guys

Hopeful this will work, but I found this while looking for some other info. It have been my dads from a long time ago.

Sorry it didn't work out properly, but it says;

The MOSQUITO is a one design racing catamaran that can be raced either one man (Mk1) or 2 man (Mk2) class. The MOSQUITO design has only been available a few seasons, and as a result incorporates all the latest innovations applicable to catamarans. It is prrof of the MOSQUITOS popularity that in such a short time there are over 400 boats sailing in Australia and more in South Africa. Racing sucesses of the MOSQUITO include:

1. Winner for two years in a row (1973 and 1974) of the Frankston - St.Leonards 64km marathon.

2. Holder of the 5m challenge cup for all catamarans up to 5m, sailing on Port Phillip Bay.

3. Won 4 of the 5 races in the recent V.Y.C elimination trails to select the type of 5m Catamaran to represent Australia at the elimination trials to determine the new international 5m 2-man catmaran.

The MOSQUITO is first and foremost a racing craft although there are many owners who no intention of racing.

The MOSQUITO MK1 is a cat rigged i.e only a mainsail. This of course is the one man version, by simply adding a jib as shown on the plan, the boat then becomes a MOSQUITO MK2, i.e. sloop rigged for two man. Very suitable for Father and son.

Designed by Neil Fowler the MOSQUITO can be constructed in plywood utilizing the simple tortured ply method. It is also available in Fibreglass, either ready for decking with timber, or complete fibreglass hulls and decks.

The MOSQUITO is a high performance craft and is very fast on all points of sailing yet, unlike many cats does not have the unpleasant habit of cartwheeling when pushed hard on reaches. The trampoline deck ensures that the crew remain comfortable and reasonably dry in all weather.

(On the back it says;)

There are sizable fleets sailing at clubs throughout Australia and South Africa. From the strong national and international acceptance of the MOSQUITO the class is assured of a strong future.

The Victorian MOSQUITO Association runs regular association meetings, social events as well as State and National championships. MOSQUITO Catamarans are sailed the following clubs in Victoria.

Altona, Beaumaris, Carrum, Somers, Safety Beach, Rosebud, Frankston, Bendigo-Lake Eppalock, Waranga, Albury-Wodonga, Warrnambool.
