Hello All,

A little help please.

At this weekend's St. Croix International Regatta [ which turned out to be a 'locals' race, no other cats travelled from other islands].

The RC used Portsmouth rating for the beach cats.

They assigned me a number of 69.0

I cannot find this number on the website.

I find a number of 73 from a 2003 table.

The other boats were Nacra 5.8 [three of them rated at 66.0]

The RC also decided NOT to use the wind strnght factored numbers.

Day 1 and 2 was 12-14 mph and was very nice.

Day 3 was 20-25 with gusts and was the typical 'full throttle' Caribe race day.

So, I ask you all, what is a Nacra Inter 17 ( 28'mast uni 1- up) current Portsmouth number?

regards,

Bruce

Nacra 17 Uni (NI17U) no spi N17U 73.2 75.7 75.0 73.2 71.0
Nacra F17 Uni spi (NI17R) NF17 66.7 69.0 68.3 66.6 65.0

First numbers is base, then 0-1, 2-3, 4, 5+

So, if you have a chute and were racing in Beaufort 0-1, 69 would be the correct number. Since you say they didn't use wind corrections, they did you a favor since your base number is 66.7 (if you have a chute).

The DPN number is the lazy number to use if you do not want to make sure you have the right wind conditions.

Any possibility they were not using the US Portsmouth numbers?

Yo "Bro"!

Here's the rating for your Nacra 17 w/28' alum mast and no spin:

Nacra 17 Uni (NI17U) no spi N17U 73.2 75.7 75.0 73.2 71.0
If you carry a spin with this rig then you would take the spin adjustment rating, not the Nacra 17 w/spin rating(30' carbon stick).

ahoy,

thanks to all..

..I forwarded the nfo to the RC...

..it confirmed what i gave them on day 1, ...day 2,...so nothing new is coming to them..

..I did ok, with the 69 rating I was

3,3,3,4,4,3,2,3,dns

..the boats ahead of me were Nacra 5.8's

..I just wonder if my 3rds would have beed 2nd's,..and the one 2nd a first..

thanks again..!

Actually you may have done worse. You stated that they were not using the wind strength factoring so your actual DPN should have been 66.7 rather than 69.

Hey Lance, it's a Euro-spec I-17, w/the short aluminum mast and no kite - the 4-5 numbers are around 73.2, and D-PN is still 73.0.

Doh!, guess I should reread all of the posts before replying
I was looking at the numbers posted above, didn't realize it was the Euro model with no kite.
