This is absolutely devastating news. I have seen that N6.0 being towed around Portland, ME many times. My sympathy and best wishes go out to their families.

The name is really familiar, but I can't put a face to it. Anybody know if Dave was sailing Hobies in the early 80's? I belonged to Maine Hobie Fleet 231 from 1982-1985.

Just got that creepy "I used to know that guy" feeling.

Matt, dunno - but he was one with a Nacra 6.0 that broke a mast under spinnaker a couple of years ago and was trying to get a replacement mast under warrantee (which wasn't going very well). There was a bit of a discussion about it here. He chimes in here from time to time and although I think he had a second username, was at one time "crackx" here.

**** Medical center. Dave remains in Dartmouth in the ICU. At this point the hospital is not going to release info to non family members so I don’t think people should call the hospital. I don’t want to go into more details on the forum.
There will be a informal memorial reception service for Wayne Friday Feb 24 at 4 pm in Natick MA at the Dolphin Restaurant (www.dolphinseafood.com). There may be a memorial service on Saturday.
In leiu of flowers that family has asked that people donate in Wayne’s memory to:

Mission
• To promote for the benefit of the general public the preservation of natural resources primarily in, but not limited to, the towns of the Belgrade Lakes watershed and Kennebec County in the state of Maine. These resources include land and water resources, the plant and animal life thereon, and unique scenic, agricultural, natural, and historic sites.
• To engage in and promote the scientific study of, and education regarding natural resources.
• To use all property held by the corporation, and the net earning thereon, for the benefit of the general public and for charitable, educational, recreational, conservation, scientific, or historical purposes.
Wayne was an avid iceboater and fishermen who loved the outdoors and Belgrade lake
Dave and Wayne were both very experienced iceboaters with 30 years of iceboating between them. It appears to just be a freak collision with a tragic outcome.

Many of you know dave as the guy who sails the Nacra 6.0 Crack-X. Dave is a member of CRANNE and NENSA and runs the Pine Point multihull regatta in Maine.

If you have other questions, and want updates on Dave you can call me at 860.367.7806. or email me at eric.anderson@uconn.edu
I will tell you what I can. Eric Anderson US 5193 A class US 28

St. Louis, MO,
Such sad news. I met Dave for the first time at an Alter Cup Championship. Great guy and a great sense of humor. We hung out quite a bit that week. I wish him the best in his recovery from this accident.

In addition to being a sailor, Dave is also an excellent craftsman.

Notice the DN frames in the photo, thats probably whats he's smiling about. I'm sure Dave built those. Dave also built a square white catbox for his Crack X N6.0. The fit and finish on this box impressed me to the point that I struck up a conversation with Dave and we started corresponding with him on a next generation version. Dave pointed me towards using Corecell foam for the box. I started work on my own box, and at some point I got distracted and started building a boat. My initial work on the catbox gave me enough confidence and experience in working with epoxy and foam that I dove into the boat project. If I hadnt met Dave and hadnt started the catbox project, I probably wouldnt have built the A cat.

I hope Dave is able to sail and build again soon.

Bill
