(b Little America's Cup
The Secretary General reported on the situation regarding the America's Cup and the Little America's Cup. ISAF has been requested by the America's Cup Management to assist in the dispute regarding the use of the phrase "America's Cup". The International Catamaran Challenge Trophy (ICCT) was first introduced in 1961 as a match racing event for Catamarans. The present organiser, Sea Cliff Yacht Club, has promoted this event as the "Little America's Cup". Through US Sailing ISAF will request the organisers to refrain from further use / promotion of this event as the Little America's Cup.
Decision
Vice-President David Irish will raise this issue with US Sailing.

So... bottom line... NOBODY gets to use the name Little America's Cup because of all of the noise...

For catamaran racing to be associated with the Americas Cup is an insult to catamaran racing. ICCT works fine for me.

Though it was in the hands of a "confimed" mono hull sailer ("Big" DC) that a cat really "wupped the butt" of the America's cup sailing "stuffyness" inc'. God, that must have really left a bad taste in their collective mouths?

Great idea!! ISAF already claims to own the words "world" and "international." Now they are going to claim the right to tell us what we can or cannot name our events?

If the America's Cup organization doesn't want anybody else using that name, let them sue Sea Cliff Yacht Club.
ISAF should stay out of it. Their self-assumed power has gone to their heads, some of which are in a very dark place.

By the way, the term "Little America's Cup" is not even an official event name -- it is a nickname that has been in use for 45 years, and the America's Cup management has just now noticed?

The ISAF can only be described as a thoroughly unscrupulous, greedy bunch of bustards!
The audacity of the claims they make (all under only their own personal authority) over the control, and ownership of most (if not all) things sailing, and then the draconian threats they claim that they will put into place if ANY one should "violate" THEIR rule.
I thought that sort of abusive, discriminatory subjection went out with feudalism.
I am still at a loss as to how any body/organization can dream of claiming the “ownership” of any descriptive sentence, name, or phrase that has been a commonly used part of the language for many years, long before the ISAF was even an embryo in the foul womb of some distorted idiot’s nightmares.

So was 'Americas Cup' neither!
I wonder why ISAF has to be involved here?

The problem with the term 'Little Americas Cup' is that it sells mutch better. Mutch easier to find sponsors and so on.

The next ICCT Cup is scheduled in August in Cescenatico Italy.
Sadly, the italian sponsors of the Cup, don't want to spend any money without the term 'Little Americas Cup'.

It sounds to me like it is possible one of the two catamaran events approached the America's Cup authority to try and resolve the dispute (to get it sided to them). If that is true...talk about a backfire!

I dont think Seacliff would go to AC management.

Its a stupid arguement, made even worse by AC and ISAF getting involved.

Oh! I can take them or leave them, I remain quite calm and reasonably ambivalent about them (BUT I would rather leave them, preferably in some deep, dark recess that Mary has referred to, or perhaps in their own little Hell where they stand for all eternity up to their necks in their own foul waste, where the grim reaper, every 5 seconds swings his razor sharp scythe around at neck level, and they all have to "duck their heads” under their own sheet (with their lips previously removed), and this exercise continuing for all eternity)
As I said "I can take them or leave them?

I think Mark was talking about Darryl specifically, since he is a boat designer.

I know he was talking to Darryl. I was answering in general, because many people feel the way Darryl and I do, whether ISAF has said anything to us personally or not.

The ISAF NEVER say anything to anyone - they just make decrees, shout orders and demand total obedience (I hear that before the "war in Iraq", they were looking at Sadam Hussien as the ideal person/type for their next "el presidente", he had “their” ideal type of compassion and governing skills) Then again what do I know after only 50 years as a lowly, active sailer, designer, builder, and administrator, within the sport?
