Posted earlier today but the post has disappeared so here goes again...

I have a bicycling friend that has purchased a eTrex Legend and the MapSource CD. The total package was a little over $400. He needs county road detail and the GPS comes with only state routes. So, any of you Legend owners out there... Are there any cheaper alternatives to get local county level maps into the legend besides buying the entire $149 MapSource package?

I have an etrex Legend and have never regretted the purchaseI found the Garmin Roads and Recreation for $80 through Yahoo Shopping. While I am sure other software will work to create routes and waypoint information, I don't think anything but the Garmin software will load the map information. You can't underestimate the value of the mapping features (the handlebar mount for the Legend works great on my bicycle as well).

I just recieved a New Etrex Legend on Wednesday. I purchased it with the TOPO mapsource CD. Garmin is running a $50.00 Rebate when you purchase them together.

GPSDiscount is selling the Roads and Rec CD for $79.00.

They are selling the Legend for $207.00. I got both the TOPO CD and GPS for under $300.00 so my Net will be $250 after I get the Rebate.

Here is the Site for the Roads and Rec CD: http://www.gpsdiscount.com/products/index.html?a=69

I have only had the opportunity to goof around this week with the GPS, but I am pleased so far.

Good Luck,

Doug Wilkins
