Is everybody okay down there in Australia in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Larry? We hear there were 180 mph winds and that it was the worst storm there since 1974.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet on the forums.

From the local news reports here (1500 miles away) there were a few non-serious injuries and no fatalaties but widespread property destruction. There is another cyclone to follow this one aparantly. Unfortunatly it happens every year.

Aussies are never worried by a little breeze.

According to the latest reports, the most serious injuries are a few broken bones etc but nothing life threatening.

The destruction is huge though. Many people have lost their homes and farmers have been wiped out. 90% of Australia's banana crop is gone along with a great deal of our Sugar crop. Most of these farmers are un-insured as the cost to insure their crops in a cyclone area is prohibitive

Hey Mal,
Why not come up and rig up for a sail, cyclone WATI is now heading our way and starting to crank up. Mackay was only just in the warning area for Larry and got only 40knots and scattered showers, this one I think has us in its sights. Already we have 35knots and its 700 miles away!
