I have permission, but not much likelihood of accumulating enough points this season. So I am available to crew - I pay my own way.

Hey John,

I believe they are expecting about 120 boats...... Not quiet the 180 boat limit. Therefore I don't believe qualifying would be necessary. May be a good opportunity for any non F-18 boat owners to do a Worlds too as AHPC (Capricorn), Hobie and NACRA are all expected to have charter boats available for this event.

Obviously I'd be looking to charter - seems silly to get a Capricorn shipped all the way here for seven months only to ship it back to Oz...

Thanks for the info, Steve

I went to the Keppel Bay Sailing Club and it looks as tbough all they sail there are Sabots. I could not find any information on their website about hosting the Formula 18 Worlds.

Maybe we will have to wait until after the Hyeres Event to get more information. Seems that it would be close time-wise though. If I go I need to start making plans now. I was all over the Jervis Bay Event and now have to change a lot of details. I figured out how to make Jervis affordable, as I was going to have a friend with a big boat to stay and park in the bay. He will be in the process of sailing around the world and thought it would be a fun stop.

Reasonable price tag, seeing that it was only about 100 miles south of Sydney. Pretty cheap flight, Car rental, and food were the only expenses outside of registration. Yeppoon is over 700 miles from Sydney. I suppose that would require another flight. I have to get more details before going further in the planning.

Later,
Dan

I'm in the same boat Dano - you can't even book a flight into Rockingham or Gladstone airports (closest to Yeppoon, AFAICS) using the normal on-line services. I imagine that the new host club will have some travel info for us soon. I'm going to try and distract myself in the meantime.

The Capricorn Resort is clearly visible on Google Earth - look for the golf courses.

Rockhampton is around 900 miles north of Sydney. The nearest international airport is Brisbane which is closer - only 400 miles away. Rockhampton would be the nearest regional airfield but that is very small.

KBSC sails a variety of classes including Sabots, Corsairs, 420s, Sharpies, Skiff Moths, Lasers, MGs, 29ers, RS200s, RS400s,Tasars to catamarans such as various NACRAs, A Class, F-16s, Arrafuras, Arrows, Cobras.

Very active and professionally run club with a large junior development program and also works closely with several schools.

The event will be ran by the AUS F-18 Association with the assistance of KBSC. It will not however be ran from that club but from the Rydges Resort. KBSC regularly hosts State, National and International sailing events and are very capable of such an event.

As for flights, after flying into Brisbane International Airport, swap to a flight to Rockhampton where a bus service runs into Yeppoon. Rydges Resort offers a bus service also and would expect that it will be offered with the regatta package.

Flight bookings for as little as $69.00 Australian, each way. Cheapest flights through Virgin Blue and JetStar.

Qantas - http://www.qantas.com.au/regions/dyn/home/qualifier-region-au

Virgin Blue - http://www.virginblue.com.au/

JetStar - http://www.jetstar.com.au/

Will get back to you with accommodation packages, car hire and anything else you may need …….. Will also organise for details to get put up on the AUS F-18 site. The 2007 Worlds site is undergoing some changes and should be up again soon.

St. Louis, MO,
Looks like it's a little early to book. Check out this page that I found. I could combine this trip into a two week family vacation possibly. Sounds cool.

Link to Quantas flight info

I don't know jack about AUS though.

So how do I reserve a boat? Something fast preferably.

Hi I see we getting a fair bit of interest for the worlds Australia 2007 as you see from the photos it's a spectacular location sailing conditions are typical tropical Queensland with warm waters and we have wind charts with readings at six am every three hours to six in the evening in the month of February from 1994 to 2006 showing that there is a 80% chance that the wind at 9 a.m. will come in from the East to South-east at 9 to 10 knots and at 12 noon the wind will shift to the east and strengthened to 20 knots every day!!! the location of the course is on the waters adjacent the rydges resort which is surrounded by tropical islands and further out to sea by the Great Barrier Reef the dates have not yet been confirmed but we propose the event to be run from the 18th to the 25th of February the event website is currently under construction and we hope within a fortnight it'll be up and running it will contain all regatta information, on-site booking for accommodation and registration to the event,it will also list any boats that will be available for charter, recommended tourist destinations and flight data.
If you are keen to make any internal flights bookings I would recommend Virgin Blue or JetStar both fly to Rockhampton right now online Virgin Blue have got specials either from Sydney or Brisbane to Rockhampton for as cheap as $89 that's Australian Dollors, Qantas has a domestic carrier called Qantas link they too fly to Rockhampton but only use small propeller type aircraft.
Finally I would like to say that I've been sailing now over 25 years and have competed in national or world events in just about every part of the globe, this event will be truly a special event.
Picture this you are just finishing the fourth race with 18 knots 30° in tropical blue water with a glitter of white caps, you now return to the beach to drop the sails to meet your wife who is ful of joy, as she has been able to watch the first two hours of racing from the cafe located in the viewing area which is located 20 feet above the water surrendered by palm trees, she then dusted off the kids and Put them in the free of charge day-care centre, so she could enjoy a one-hour treat at the resort day spa, you both now head to the pool area to have the evening swim while been served drinks from the poolside bar and enjoying the company of your sailing friends, before making a choice of which restaurant you would like to dine in tonight.
Now! do you think the next time you want to go to a worlds you will need to ask for permission??????????

See You in Paradise.

Stephen,

We are doing the F18 NA's here in Carlyle in Sept. I'm betting that if we had 1 or 2 containers here ready to ship to AUS that we could fill them after the event here to be shipped out to AUS. The biggest problem is that we are not a port city. In fact we are in the middle of the USA. I have no idea what we would have to do to get the containers to AUS. It's just an idea that I thought I'd throw your way to see what you thought. I think for $1500AUS we would have quite a few takers. I know I would be one of them. We are already having a container shipped from CA. Those guys I'd guarantee would go.

Michael S. Hill

If anybody here knows Michael, could you please pass on my message.

Cheers

G'day Michael.

I am not very familiar with your geographical area, however I would imagine that if there is only a few from your area, you may have to road transport them yourself or arrange through a transport company. If you have enough boats, you could arrange to pack the container in your general area or at this event and have the container freighted to the nearest port via truck.

Firstly I would talk to your National body to see if they have any plans currently in place or if they have something already in the pipe line. Alternatively as mentioned before.......
