Notices of Race:
I have just confirmed with the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club in Ventura, CA that they will run a beachcat (18’ and over) class for the other two races in the Land Rover Island Series this summer predicated on five (5) or more beachcats being PRE REGISTERED for the race. For reference, the Milt Ingram Race is the second venue on this three race series.
The first race of this series is The Hardway that starts in Santa Barbara and ends in Ventura will be on May 20th (sorry for the short notice). This race usually runs out around Santa Cruz Island; however, for safety reasons, the beachcat class will run with the non spinnaker mono hull class along the coast from Santa Barbara Harbor to Ventura Harbor – a great 30 mile challenge for both spinnaker & Non Spinny rigged beachcats.
The second race is the Milt Ingram which I am sure needs no further elucidation, and will be held on July 15, 2006
The third of the series is the Tri Point Race, and IMHO is “full on beachcat drag race” Ventura harbor, around Anacapa Island, back to Ventura Harbor. This is being held on August 26. As a note we had an average speed of 11 MPH for the race with peaks of 20 MPH coming off the west side of Anacapa when we shadowed the ORCA fleet last year.
For the above races, you may contact PBYC at
http://www.pbyc.org. And to mentioned, as this goes without saying, there will be strict safety requirement for each of these races.
Also, Ventura Sailing Club will be holding its Second Annual Frenchy’s Rum Run on July 2, 2005. We are currently working with the Ventura Port District to open up the beach inside the harbor to allow beachcat participants launch and retrieve. Al La Hobie Blue Water Regatta
As with the Tri Point Race, this is a great beachcats race out to Anacapa Island and back, and a great venue to cut your distance racing and island cruising teeth on.
And, we are confirming a date with the VTA Port District for the first running of the Anacapa Challenge Beachcat Regatta to be held in late summer early fall 2006 off the beach in Ventura, CA. Once we have clearance from the port district for use of the beach this date will be posted.
