I’m looking for N6.0 one piece cover template.
I will keep my boat on the beach this year and I want to protect it form the sun.
Also, do I need to make some kind of cradles for the boat hulls or keeping it on the sand is fine? There is already something buried in the sand so I can tie my boat down.

Thanx
Kris

Kinder Industries of Bristol, Ri makes great covers. The owner is an A-cat sailor and has done many cat covers. He told me they were using my 6.0 to make a template off of, not sure if they have done it yet but i'm sure they would.
Their website is www.kinder-industries.com
As far as storage, if the sand is soft and fine (no rocks) I would just leave it on the sand, if there are rocks or anything that will scratch the hull I would get any kind of foam (pool noodles work great) to protect the stern and leave the cat trax (with cradles) a few feet back from the bow. This way the boat will be supported in the front by the cat trax and in the back by foam, just enough to keep the hull off the sand. If your cat trax don't have cradles, which they should, just put more foam under the front.

If you are penurious as I am you can easily make your own. These will last at least a year and do not cost more than about $40 and time. If you know how to use a sewing machine and have access to one it helps.

I buy a tarp (plastic) or a canvas dropcloth from Home Depot that is a little longer than my boat. 20 feet in my case and about twice as wide 14 to 16 feet should do for an 8½ foot boat. I get the thicker kind that is UV enhanced. You may need an extra small tarp for the extra panels. I think the big tarp cost me $20 and the smaller one was about $8. Then there is webbing and upholstery thread.

In the illustration I have shown where to cut the material and why it is cut there. For the cuts that are shrouds, trapezes, and bridle wires I add flaps that close the gap after the cover is on. These only need to be sewn on one side, then install a way to close them. You can use bungee, webbing or line. I think Velcro gets too expensive for this.

Where the material will hang down and the cut exposes the boat I add a square of material that is sewn on two sides to make a drop down. This is at the front and rear crossbeam. The front one will have to have a slit to it can go around the mast where I add another tie.

For the bow I fold the material on the dotted line then sew it together for a snug fit there.

I like to add a wide piece of webbing folded in half and sewn on at any part or edge that I deem a stress point or area. Those areas are around the mast and around all the inside edges of the flap areas.

I finish it by making sure that there is no cut that is exposed by hemming anything that is.

Later,
Dan

I already bought Sunbrella material for the cover. I guess I will have to make paper template first and then transfer all dimensions on the material.

As far sand on the beach – it is soft no racks. Once I will make the cover I think there will be no need for those cradles or any kind of foam.

Thanx

Kris
