At present the system/forum seems to be working as I would want it to. Since expiring cookies folders are yellow or white as they should be and red unread post numbers are working.

I'd also like to say a BIG Thankyou! to Rick, Mary (and Chad) <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Well, expiring the cookies definitely has not worked on Rick's computers. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I am using Win XP Pro with SP2. I am using Mozilla FireFox 1.5.0.3. It seems to only be a problem in the Open forum. All the others seem to work fine and have red numbers and yellow folders. I have also tried to expire cookies and re log in. Doesn't help. Also most of the time it will not remember me and I have to relogin everytime I go to the forums.

Hope this helps?

Doug

I'm on 10.3.9. Once the date problem was resolved everything has worked fine.

Mine seems to be fixed now. Red numbers are back. We will have to wait and see, but so far so good.

Thanks,

Doug

Wouter:

You are right! Back to the same old carp. There is a serious bug in the server somewhere. Oh well I hope they get it fixed. Until then I will just have to go by time and dates. Hope to get new boat this weekend and start learn spinnaker.

The instant gramelin problem has been fixed again. I inadvertantly put back the file that was causing the problem while trying to fix another issue.

Unfortunaltely, the numbers and the folder/light bulb color problem is a known bug and a fix is being worked on.

Until the fix is available, we will have to live with it. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

When will the red numbers and the yellow folders be back permanent? It comes and goes but very rarely.

I've never had a problem with them - strange.

VERY strange. Rick and I have the same kind of computers and we both have Windows XP, and we are on the same network and in the same room, and yet the light bulbs and red numbers work for me and don't work for him (they work for him occasionally).

However, it does not even work for me the same way it used to. Now, when I leave the internet and then come back to it, all the lights are no longer on for the messages on the forum that I did not read before I left the last time. VERY annoying. The NEW ones are lit up since AFTER I left the internet, but the old ones I did not read are NOT lit up. So I have no way of knowing what I read and what I didn't.

I am told that the reason UBB had to "upgrade" is because they had to change all the script for a new type of format or something. But if that is the case, why couldn't they just change the scripts for the older forum instead of adding features and deleting features and changing things? It was fine the way it was. Aargh! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Mary,

The forum ALWAYS acted that way for me. After being away for an extended period and I didn't have a chance to read all the new posts the evening I got home (or whatever), I used to leave my computer on overnight with the browser open so it wouldn't forget the ones that I hadn't read.

Yep, I still have the same %^#$@ as Doug reports. I for one am not happy with the upgrade; I only lost functionality and the search engine does find nearly as well as the old one.

I'm now getting quite handy with remembering the dates of post I have already read. Also I seperately open the threads I suspect have a new post and find that the orde of them is rearranged most of the time.

The customary reply is :"Well, yes that is a known bug" as if that solves anything.

Also there seems to be more spamming going on then before.

I always say :"if it ain't broke don't fix it" and the old forum wasn't broke as far as I know.

Lets downgrade !

Chaps,

The old forum software was broken. It had a massive security hole in it that allowed others to host web pages on this and other sites (I do not know if this site was effected) - Upgrading was a must do.

You remember the discussion we had about the yellow folder icons? I'm on a different laptop and I can't see them either...however, I am quite sure that it's more of a contrast / display problem with this individual screen...the difference between the white and the yellow isn't very significant and doesn't display on some screens. I bet if the "yellow" folder graphic were changed to be more orangish that this problem would go away.

That would not explain why people see them sometimes and not other times on the same computer. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

no - your right...and even though I thought I saw yellow folders, it didn't seem to go to the new post when I clicked on them.
