The Notice of Race for the above event will soon be on the Mumbles Yacht Club website. However, I haven't completed the Sailing Instructions yet as I would like to get the views of other F16 sailors in respect to the number of discards for what we hope will be a 12 race series. From a personnal point of view I wouldn't want any as I cant see the point, if you have a s***t race it's your own fault!! If another person wrecks your race you are entitled to a redress hearing. So now I've set the "cat" amongst the pigeons I am looking forward to your various replies and reasonings.

I, personally, would like to see at least one discard in a series as long as twelve races. Possibly even two discards. It would be frustrating to have to sail ultra-conservatively just because you haven't the ability to discard a bad result or two.

I vote for 1 or 2 discards as then you can risk more in a few races. Indeed I agree with John that no discards will cause everybody to sail very conservatively.

I would go for 1 discard after 6 races, and one more after 10.

Maybe I am way wrong, but it seems to me that the more races there are in a series, the less important it is to have discards. A bad race in a series of four, five or six races, could be devastating, but in a series of 12 races things seem to even out more for everybody, especially if there are varying sailing conditions.

I would say one discard at most, because at least that would allow for a breakdown.

Not that I'm planning to be ther (when is it by the way), but I'm sure I've read that the guidlines are > 4 races one discard, > 8 races 2 discards.

It allows people to get fouled by others and not ruin their series etc.
