Trying to pick up a new boat (Mystere 4.3) Memorial weekend. Is there any racing going on or place to sail with other cats?

Tshan:

I would love to race with you guys and see the Blade, but it seems I am NOT allowed to be on the grounds of OSYC by the queen bee beach captain Tami. She thinks I am bad because I had a bipolar attack at Ides of March a few years ago (like I had control of that) and said if I show up she will have us thrown of the grounds. I will NEVER go to a regatta at OSYC!!

Anywhere off Leeside Park (is it still there after the 'canes?) is good. Puts you in the bay with sandy beach with no/little waves. Not sure where all the locals sail.....anyone?

Doug,

Go to Navarre Beach -- about half way between Ft. Walton and Pensacoal Beach. Go to Juana's. There are a lot of Waves there plus a lot of other cats. Juana's is a beach catamaran friendly beach, plus Juana's has plenty of cold Coronas. Very protected a nice place to sail cats. I keep my ARC22 about a mile west of there. Juana's also host several catamaran regattas each year. Check out their website.

Don:

Sounds like a ball. If all goes well I found a cheap Motel 6 in Pensacola for me and grand daughter. We will get David to meet us in Juanas Pagodas. Sound like a great place to party and sail. Will you be there with the ARC22? I will call you in the am.

Doug

The best place is leeside park on Okaloosa Island, that is where most cat sailors are, juanas is not really very cat friendly anymore, not since the new boat ramp and the area around leeside is much more protected, and much easier to put a cat in, unfortunately we are camping this weekend and so we will be sailing near the campsite, at a place in between those two places.

The Fort Walton Yacht Club is having a small boat race on sunday in front of the yacht Club. Nice beach to sail out of along with the YC facilities adn bar to use. As a racer youwould be a complimentary member and have use of the facilities, bar, showers, etc. The small boat pogram is cat friendly as they have 3 waves, a Dragoon, and a H 16 in their program. Conctact Sam Grant by calling club for his email or phone #. FWYC can be reached 8-5 at 850 243 7102. Also an easy sail over from the beach at Leeside Park.
Have fun!

The racing this weekend (Sunday) at FWYC is open to EVERYONE. We are always happy to have people come down and participate. We will be registering from 11:30 to 12:00. Racing will start at 1:30 to 2:00, depending on everyone getting their boats in the water. We try to run at least 4 races, typically 2 windward/leewards (twice around) and 2 Gold Cups. We reserve the right to run more or less races. Entry is $5.00 per person. Proceeds go towards the end-of-year trophies and awards goodies.

This race is part of the BBSC/FWYC Small Boat Challenge. That is a Portsmouth-rated series that constitutes a 'challenge' between Fort Walton Yacht Club and Bluewater Bay Sailing Club.

Individual race results will be inclusive of all racers, no matter where you are from. Overall results will be limited to members from either club. There is a 'perpetual' trophy that goes to the club with the best sailing in the series.

If you do not know your rating, it is OK. We get up-to-date ratings from the US Sailing Portsmouth website.

We have a variety of boats showing up this Sunday. They include: Flying Scot (3 confirmed), Laser Full (3 confirmed, 1 semi-confirmed), Laser Radial (2 confirmed), Sunfish (3 confirmed), Hobie Wave (1 confirmed), Nacra Inter17 (1 confirmed), Club 420 (2 confirmed), Force5 (semi-confirmed), Hobie 18 (semi-confirmed).

As far as having any cats to race against...for this coming Sunday, we have one Hobie Wave confirmed that is being sailed by the current Wave 'Worlds' champion, Zach Grant. There should be a Nacra Inter17 showing up being sailed by Bob Curry...he promised he would be there. If all goes well, there should also be a Hobie 18 there too.

We are willing to run seperate classes/starts depending on the number of boats that show up. We will probably divide everyone into two fleets if there are more than 20 boats showing up.

If you have any questions, shoot me an email. If you are interested in coming down, let know. I would like to have a somewhat firm idea of the number of sailors showing up by Saturday.

Or call my cell: 850-830-5994.

If you want to come down for other races, check out the schedule on the FWYC website:

Hope to see you all out there!

...and don't discount the Hobie Wave racing against the 'big guys'...see the results here:

http://www.fwyc.org/Portsmouth/2006/Liquid/Mult_All.pdf

...had a Wave racing against a AClass Cat and a Javelin (18HT)...

Imagine how it would have done with the Wave world champ sailing it instead of his father?

Juanas is a nice place- I usually keep my boat on the beach there. I am not sure they are having a race on June 10,11 but it is listed on Key Sailing's web site but not on the Juanas site... anyone know?
