Hello all, recently in some heavy winds at rehoboth bay, I accidentally tore a small rip into my extremely old vinyl tramp in the rear of it. The tear ripped horizontally across the tramp from where the nylon hiking straps connect to the tramp about 4 inches long. Today, while tacking, i kneeled down directly onto the tear and made it stretch to about 10 inches. Now this poses a problem and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions as how to repair this rip. I was considering just stitching up the vinyl and placing another piece on top and below for support, and possibly glueing it also, but I am also wondering if its time for me to replace the tramp for a mesh one instead. The tramp is the original from '79, so it is old.

your best bet would be a replacement, but if your straped for cash you should try your "sandwich patch" idea worst case you need to get a new one so just do what you can.

Maybe you could rough stitch it with herring bone stitches to bring it together,-Then, sew a length of hiking strap over and beyond the tear, using multiple box stitches. Repeat on opposite side. Maybe your sail loft will do this for a reasonable price. (Why buy new, when "slightly" used will do.) I like milking things out to the bitter end. But on a 2200 acre lake, I can't get into too much trouble.
