I just bought a Hobie 14 Turbo and need some help setting it up.I have no idea how to rig this boat or sail it.My house is on the lake and I always see these boats sailing around out on the lake so I had to try it.The boat I bought is in pretty good condition and appears to be all there I just dont know how to set it all up.Anybody out there was some spare time want to give me a hand? I will supply the boat launch and the cold adult beverages.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Assuming we are talking Oneida Lake, NY - welcome to cat sailing on a great lake. Unbelievable, ice has only been out for a couple of months and the water temperture is already 70. The advantages of a shallow lake with consistent winds! I have a Prindle 18 on the south shore about 7 miles west of Sylvan Beach (town of Lenox), where are you?

Also check out your local fleet - http://www.fleet204.com/

And if you see this message today make sure you get yourself to Borio's to check out the Alter Cup finals and see how these boats are meant to be sailed. Not every day we get a cat event like the Alter Cup in our home town.

Definately talk to fleet 204 they are a great group of people, and put on a lot of fun races. I grew up sailing on Oneida Lake, and learned a lot just by going to their Thursday night races. Not to mention going to the Madcatter every May. They should be able to help you get your boat tuned up and get you sailing in no time.

Yes - as the other sailors said...

Go to Borio's on Lakeshore Road July 9th at 8:00pm. Fleet meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of the month. We'll be in one of the rooms - ask anyone who works there - they all know which meeting the room will be in that night. We find out when we get there (based on what they have available). And check out the Fleet web site at

I'm not there now, but have sailed both my Uni and my Dart 18 on the lake a few times. I was the only boat on the lake (as far as I could see) on most days. Strange feeling...to have such beautiful sailing weather and no one around.

I sailed from my inlaws just east of Borio's (about .5 mile).

Mike, I'm surprised you didn't have much company on the water, I used to put in on the other side of the lake by Constantia, and used to see cats on the water all the time. Of course monohulls were rare, usually only found motoring up the channel due to it being such a shallow lake (You don't want to turtle there). Of course I haven't there for years, so maybe things have changed.

I just think that everyone on the lake works during the week. I'm always on vacation when I'm there. I've come to the conclusion that I'd have a hard time working if I lived on that lake!

Like I do in Dunedin, FLA.

Mike

I like the "Gin-mill" in Constantia accessable by boat (power that is). Can't remember the name though.
