I have a nacra 5.2 with tramp mounted jib blocks(leads) A cable runs underneath the tramp from the fornt to rear crossbeam. The cable comes up through the tramp and then out again. There is a slot in the tramp parrallel to the beams. Since the cable has a lot of slack, the blocks slide inward and outward while sheeting and after sheeting( towards and away from the hulls). How can i fix this? Should i replace the cable with tight spectra line? Is there a way to keep them from moving? Thanks a lot

You can make the jib leads adjustable for and aft by putting a clam cleat and a bullet block on the rear beam and then running a control line to tyhe shackle on the jib block. The wire should not elevate more than 10" above the trampoline at an absolute maximum. If the distance is greater than that then you should put on shorter wires. If you are going to substitute for a fabric (cordage) then use crystaline (vectran).

my jib leads are adjustable for and aft. However, when i sheet in they slide inwards and then slide outwards. This is because there is a slot parrallel to the beams, so they are allowed to do it. The wire is losse enough to allow them to do that. I dont think they are loose enough to elevate ten inches above the tramp, that's alot. They are loose enough to allow them to slide inwards and out, not forward and aft. Shoud i replace it with cordage? should i shorten the wire and then tie it with cordage on one end to really tighten it? what else?

p.s. i think you are thinking that the wires are above the tramp. they are suspended below the tramp and come above only through two slots. this allows enough wire exposed above the tramp to adjust the forward and aft placement

I understand exactly what you are talking about. Because the leads are not static (fixed) the wire is going to allowing some "sweating" of the lead wire. Unless you install a track on the hulls and then add an inboard restriction system you will always have the problem of the block not allowing you to sheet in to 100%.

should i replace the wire with cordage that is tighter or shorten the wire to reduce the play in the wire. there is a bit of salck to it.

Except for crystaline which is just equivelent to wire, there aren't any better substitutions in the way of cordage for this application and all of the cordage will fray over time. stick with wire. Make it shorter.
