i have a trac 16 i bought new many years ago, it had some years of use and care but i have neglected to keep it up. it is in need of a tramp and some other small pieces which i may or may not be able to find. i have found a supercat 17 in very good shape with a trailer(my trac has none) for $500.00, less than it would cost to bring my trac back to shape. does anyone out there have an opinion about which is the better boat?i want to put the money in what will be the better and more durable boat for bay and ocean. the majority of my sailing is done in a very shallow bay and the kick up on the trac rudder was never great.....does anyone have a recommendation??????

Go for the SC17. I love mine. If you race, it has a great (high) Portsmouth number. Once you figure out how to sail this odd hull shape (be patient), you can easily outsail the number and beat most anyone. If you have balls of steel, you can solo in big air with all sails. It has ASTONISHING downwind speed with it's huge full jib. The mast is heavy as hell as is the the whole boat but who cares cuz it sails great. I use a gin-pole to step the mast. Huge flotation makes it a party boat if you want it to be. Parts are available from Aquarius.
Heck, the trailer is worth the money. Lots of SuperCat cultists to help you out, too.

David Parker
SuperCat 17 "Aqua Ho"
Dunedin FL
