I just took a look at the F18 rules and noticed that in one place it is stated that a fixed steering compass is required, and later on it seems that an exception is made to the rule. Is this a North American vs. International exception?

Any recommendations regarding steering compasses? All of my sailing is on lakes, fwiw.

The North American Rules exclude the requirement for a steering compass.
