I'm thinking of replacing the three single blocks hanging from the TheMightyHobie18 boom with a Harkin Triple (3") block. It seems that as you sheet more with the stock system, you are pulling the three top blocks together as much as you are pulling the boom to the rear crossbar.

Does anyone know one of the stock boom bails will stand the strain of a triple top block?

You should have no trouble hooking everything up to a single stock bail, but you will probably also want to upgrade the base as well. I used a Harken 064 base with a 049 triple upper for years on a H-18, it's much cleaner than the stock setup. I mainly used the rear bail and found it helped keep the mast rotated in the choppy stuff.

I might have a set in the garage still if you interested in used gear.

Make that a 070 upper triple. You need the becket.

I replaced the lower tripple with a harken fiddle bock w/becket and found that to work well. The problem with the combination of single blocks on the boom and tripple block on the traveler car it that the mainsheet tends to get twisted plus there is a lot of friction. The fiddle block on the bottom keeps all of the blocks in line which eliminates the friction and the twisting.
