Hi everyone. I am brand new to the board, and new Hobie 16 owner. Unfortunately my boat was on the wrong side of a 'hit and run'. The port hull was the only thing damaged. A 1 foot section of the hull (about 8 inches from the bottom of the hull) was torn. The hull doesn't cave in completly but would more than likely take in water. I'm not too interested in seeing my boat will sink, because I think it will. Since this is the first boat I have owned I was wondering if this is something I can have fixed at a boat repair shop or if I will have to order a new hull for the boat. It is an older boat, 1978, so it has the yellow hulls. Does the hull color make it more difficult to fix it? Is it even possible to order a new yellow hull or do they only come in white now? Thanks for everyones help. I wish I could have started off my posting with a happier question, but at least I was able to have some good times on the boat for about a month before this happened.

It can be repaired. I got speared by a port tacker once and probably had more damage than you describe. Find a boat repair shop that can handle foam core construction and all should be good. The only real problem you may run into is matching the yellow. The color has probably faded a bit after 28 years.

Yeah, I would go to a boat repair shop and also have inspection ports installed. They are great to have and provide a nice view of the hulls to check-up on repairs and leakage.
