Posts: 195 Straight Outta Hell | weren't there 30-odd boats? Were the boats listed in the results all who finished, or just the top placers?
Waitaminit, this is just a few showing, right? Because I remember at least a few more beachcats... Of particular interest to a friend of mine is the result of a certain Jav f18HT...
As I've said before, the FWYC gang is doing a bang-up job of running races, so support 'em, y'all
thanks Sam, and thanks to the rest of the RC at FWYC!
This sig would be something witty, but the censors are against that.

Posts: 134 Gulf Coast/FWB | Drifting match. I was away on travel, but called the guys every so often...some boats reportedly stuck in the narrows for 6 hours without any breeze. ouch.
Lots of dropouts. Kudos to those who finished. Light air sailing is tough enough in short intervals - 23 to 26 hours is brutal.
Regards,
C.

duh.
:P I guess all the race organizers will be calling you prior to setting their race schedules to see which weekends will have wind? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> Lets see... What about the last weekend in March? Sometimes the obvious is as clear as mud! Clayton | | | Re: 2006 'Round the Island

This year was an unusually slow year even by RTI standards. There have been years where everyone has finished within 8 - 12 hours. There have also been years where they have kept everyone inside because of conditions on the outside.
RTI has always been a light air affair, and I'm no fan of light air sailing especially when I'm into my fourth hour of paddling just to get to the beach at 2:30 AM. But, the RTI is what it is. As with any race you roll the dice and you take your chances, this year we got snake eyes.
Eventhough I told myself never again with every stroke of the paddle I'll probably be back, but I won't be on an 18 foot boat!

Posts: 75 NW Florida - Destin | The results are for all boats that finished (minus the guy who came in around the same time as the awards ~12:00).
Yep, there were 33 boats total, with only 12? finishing, thanks to the absent minded wind gods. We were all out there on the Gulf wishing for those light puffy clouds Randy promised...and to find out he quit!
As for predicting the wind...and moving the RTI to another date...hopeless! We went out some of the tri's this weekend (just a mere 7 days after our 1st place finish time of 22+ hours) to see 6+ foot swells out on the open water with a nice 12-15 knot breeze all day!
As for what someone else said...it is what it is! Seems like everyone has varying degrees of fun no matter what the wind!
