Posts: 1,382 Essex, UK | Hi guys,
I need to complete a brief questionnaire on the class for Y&Y so that F16 is represented in their list of classes to be published shortly. I can obviously answer the majotity of the questions, but one is the date and venue for the 2007 Nationals.
I know we've kicked around a few ideas but have we got anything definite yet? If we haven't, we need to decide now really. I have until 16th Oct to return this stuff to Y&Y so it's not long.

A sepeate event during the summer, or tack the event onto another open meeting somewhere.
Tacking onto another open somewhere is fine as long as we get our own start.
What ever the choice we need to ensure there is a fair few weeks between it and the event in NL.

Posts: 1,382 Essex, UK | I thoroughly enjoyed sailing at Mumbles, and I wouldn't object to repeating the experience next year. I know that Mumbles S C have said they'd have us back.
However, I do also think it's about time the event happened in England and I'd be happier not having to trek all the way down the M4 from what is effectively the other side of the country......
What are other people's thoughts on this? Should we perhaps pitch up at a cat event somewhere and call it our Nationals? My own preference would be to sail somewhere that would give us our own start and course - so I guess I'd prefer something separately organised. I'd actually have no problem with an event at Datchet (or Grafham) even though it's a 'pond'
Didn't Toby say something about perhaps organising it at Weymouth?

Didn't Toby say something about perhaps organising it at Weymouth? Grafham is possible, but we are already "start full" on the fast course at the Cat open (Single handers, Fast Hcap. F18, Spitfire and 5.9's. If everyone who says they are coming, does, we will have over 200 boats on the lake (2 courses, approx 100 on each). The A classes are using the open as thier nationals (we are expecting around 20 boats) and they are sailing in the single handed champs. I'm sure the F16's would be welcome, but we could not be 100% certain of our own start ! This might change if we could be certain of 30 boats, but this would mean one of the other classes going into the Hcap fleet. Having the Nats as part of another open gives us two-for-the-price-of-one, but does make things more crowded. Another issue is that the south coast is a nightmare during school holidays !

It's only once a year and the rewards are worth it. I would have travelled to the other side of the Country on three occasions this year after I've competed in Grafham, that works out at quite alot of £'s in diesel, tolls and time off work. There was recently talk amongst the Circus (at Datchet) of holding the F16 Nations Cup at Mumbles between 11th-13th May 2007. Ed Maxwell is the contact at Weymouth but having discussed Open meetings with him the Entry Fees could be prohibitive, probably 3x as much as Mumbles. Anyway, lets hear what the rest of the Circus have to say (within 3 days) MP*MULTIHULLS | | | Re: 2007 UK Nationals

Posts: 1,382 Essex, UK | As I said in my original comment, I'd be very happy to sail at Mumbles again. 11-13th May is good for me too. So if it's on - I'm in!

Posts: 1,382 Essex, UK | I was under the impression that the Nations Cup refers to the 'home' nations - England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland. Because F16 is not an official ISAF/RYA class we cannot hold a Nationals?
It is an important and valid point that we need to clarify what this event actually is....
I was merely using the generic 'nationals' as shorthand for the Nations Cup. However, I may have misunderstood and the Nationals is a seperate thing and the Cup is what?, the Euros?
John P gave us the Cup - perhaps he'd like to stipulate what it is awarded for?

Posts: 1,382 Essex, UK | I've done a bit of digging back through this forum and I see that there was some discussion about an F16 Open at Mumbles to coincide with the A Class Nationals on 11th-13th May. It was suggested that this could also be our Nationals. I don't think it was ever resolved as to what we would do.
I also see that John P explained that the Nations Cup is a quasi-europeans for the class - so I did misunderstand
If we are to get a quick decision so that we can plan accordingly, I hereby propose - in my capacity as an ordinary F16 sailing member - that we hold the F16 Nations Cup (Europeans) AND the F16 UK Nationals at Mumbles on 11-13th May 2007. Can we have a decision from the UK Association-in-waiting please?

(GLOBAL CHALLENGE) = ISAF B*******t. We can't use Europeans or Worlds due to the ISAF, so I took it that Global Challenge was in effect our Worlds or am I jumping to conclusions. Can I fill in this thing for Y&Y with Mumbles as our 'Nationals' venue then?

Posts: 254 Gower, Wales, UK | I asked about this "Nationals" and "Worlds" usage thing on the Sailwave User Group. Apparently you can have a Nationals - there is no problem with that (need MNA approval?) - it's only "Worlds" that you need ISAF approval for if you're not an ISAF class. The requirements are in regulation 18:- http://www.sailing.org/regulations/2006_partIV.pdfhttp://www.sailing.org/regulationsEssentially 25 competitors across 6 countries in 2 continents. If you can make that, you could call the Singapore event a World Championships after seeking approval from ISAF; why would they try and hold a thriving new class back...? | | |
