12 boats racing for the Tornado nationals

Lovel is in the lead followed by Figaro and Daniels. SDYC Tornado Page

I like their presentation of the positions at the makr roundings.... Sort of lets you generate a play by play of the race in your mind. Sort of like the old days where they would recreate a basball game for the troops overseas by using the official score sheet and some imagination. (saw it on an old M.A.S.H. episode)

Wow, PUR really turned it on to wrap up the series. Nice to see Olli and Kelly and Mark Herendeen all expanding their skill set. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

After watching Lionel Messi play, I realize I need to sail harder.

What's funny in all of this is that PUR is using an aluminum mast and is simply just out pointing the other top teams. It is making some people wonder whether carbon is not faster in all conditions. Here we've had light winds (5-10kts) and flat water.

It's been fun so far. We're sailing an old boat with old sails and it doesn't seem to matter much. These boats seem to stay competitive for years.

A big difference I've noticed using the Carbon mast this event for the first time, is that the downhaul no longer flattens primarily the upper section of the sail...the C mast is so much stiffer even above the hounds, that the most bending is happening at the spreader arms...this seems to cause the whole sail to flatten nearly at the same rate.

Charlie O. agreed when I talked to him this afternoon...he said PUR could take off some heeling force at the top, which helped them at their much lighter crew weight.

It's Not the Boat! mast, sails, etc..
Enrique has been winning championships since 1981.
He has two H14 Worlds. Two H14 Nationals
Six H16 Nationals, A World sailing games
Two H20's, A Tiger Worlds, Other titles to numerous to list.
And now the Tornado.

He always sails a little higher and faster.
It is the NUT on the Tiller.
Congratulations to him.

Yes... I certainly agree with Pat!

I think Enrique has been doing much more racing then Johnny and Charlie or Robbie. So, he is much closer to being at the top of his game. I think this is the first race since the Alter Cup in the spring that Robbie and Hunter have competed. Its a team game after all!

At this level... Talent and Skill are close... Time on the water and competitive racing are huge factors leading to success.

Congratulations to all
Mark

Doesn't Charlie live in Texas and Jon in Louisiana?

Hi all,

There is no doubt that the Caribbean sailors can do heavy air/waves,.....for, this is the normal everyday thing here..

For Kiki and Jorge to do good in medium/light airs,.....especially against this field,..is a testimony to all the participants sailing skills.

..that is what makes cat racing fun,....right?

..do they have a 'secret'?....ha,..just go up to them and ask,..they are real approachable and will show you everything,...both real nice guys..

Hooray to them all.......especially the Puerto Rican team!
