I can say with some confidence that I'm not going to run out and buy a Y Flyer. They're heavy, quirky and the rudder is too small to control the boat in a breeze.
They called off racing Friday after one race in about 20 mph winds because boats were breaking. We were just getting started in that kind of stuff at the 16 NA's in RI. (Oh, yeah, we had 10 ft. swells in RI, too.) The Y's were a real handful in the "big" stuff, although reaching & going downwind was fun (planing).
On the flip side, the boat owners had a lot of pride in their Y's and took very good care of them. They were a great bunch of people, as were the people at Grand Maumelle Sailing Club where we sailed. Paul & I had a blast.
