HMMM! first of all it takes serious huevos to sail in conditions like that.
Secondly, is it me or what is up with that boats back stay? Seems like the boom is longer and will get caught with the back stay. But it also seems like in one of the photos the backstay is to windward.

I'm pretty sure they have dual backstays running to each of the wide stern corners just like the big RC cats do.

They took it from a helicopter. There is an awesome video taken at the same time as the photos on the VELUX 5 Oceans website. It show him wrestling with his storm sail. These guys are some tough sailors.
