Hello, first post here.
I am completely new to cat sailing. I am a recent owner of a used '78 Hobie 16 which a buddy and myself just picked up for $375.00 and from what I'm seeing online should be a real steal. However, there are some issues that need to be dealt with such as the bungie that ties the tramp to the frame ( sorry, don't know the technical terms yet) is extremely worn in places which I'm assuming I can replace myself, the foot holds are pretty worn, and there are soft spots on the tops of both hulls just behind the pylons. I came across a post here where it was stated to make sure there are no soft spots when purchasing a used cat ... so I'm a little concerned but given the price paid for it, not too worried.

So my questions are:
1) Can the bungie be replaced with any comparable bungie or should it be purchased from an actual Hobie parts dealer?

2) How concerned should I be about those soft spots and how can that be fixed?

Thanks!

I believe he's just talking about the trampoline lacing...yes, that's easily replaced by yourself.

thanks for the replies... i'm sure i'll have more questions soon. by the way if anyone can reccomend a good illustrated step by step book, or DVD/VHS on setting up or rigging the H16 or any good all around refererence (book or video)for the beginning/novice H16 sailor, that would be great.
