Posts: 264 Long Island, NY | The Long Island Catamaran Sailors Association (L.I.C.S.A.) is having an organizational meeting to discuss topics such as; next year's racing schedule, casual sailing, website update, mast-up storage in Nassau and Western Suffolk, election of new officers and social events. We need feedback from past, present and new members. The meeting will take place at the Smithtown Sheraton at noon on Saturday, November 18th. The Sheraton is located directly off the L.I.E. at exit 53. They will be providing a buffet lunch in a private area of the hotel. The cost is $35 per person. If you attend, the fee for lunch will be considered as your dues for 2007. Membership entitles you to discounts for racing entrance fees and for purchases at Murrays Marine. Please e-mail me at Gildergove@optonline.net if you can attend. I need a head count as soon as possible. The more the merrier! Greg

Posts: 190 Long Island, NY | Hi, Congratulations to the newly-reformed LICSA! We had 19 new and past members join on Saturday at a great luncheon - thanks Greg who put this whole thing together!
I just wanted to mention that we are not strictly racing! It might have seemed that way because we ran out of time to get to the non-racing part of the agenda.
It's a great start - let's keep the momentum going!
I will definitely host one event (out East somewhere)!
I look forward to the next meeting.

Posts: 149 Long Island, NY | My Orient point and other locations sound perfict for for a Large Catamaran storage and set up. Also this idea might atract new members to the assoication. Congratulations on the LICSA revival... The mast up storage...is this a real possibility? I would be very interested...Where about is Orient Point?

Posts: 264 Long Island, NY | Orient Point is the end of the North Fork. The end of the south fork is Montauk. I have verbal permission so far to hold four 2-day races at this state park next summer. We'll be able to leave our boats on the beach overnight with masts up. The park closes at dusk, has a locked gate and the park manager lives in the park. In addition the park has hot showers, a concession stand, BBQ grills and playgrounds if you bring the kids. We're planning on one weekend a month from june thru september. We want to schedule the races so that there are no conflicts with popular races like the Statue of Liberty, Shelter Island etc. This venue will hopefully attract sailors from New England since the entrance for the park is right next to where the ferry from New London docks. Some of the guys from the connecticut shore could sail over. For sleeping arrangements there are B&B's and a KOA campground nearby. We're going to keep the entrance fees low since many of the sailors will incur some expenses to get to the race site. There are many racing options besides around the cans. We could do 50 miles of distance races each day using a variety of round-trip routes. You'll see what I mean if you consult a chart of Gardiners Bay, Little Peconic Bay and Great Peconic Bay. Greg

Posts: 264 Long Island, NY | Thomas, I should note that the long term mast-up storage we're looking into is at Hecksher State park on the great south bay. The sea breeze is pretty reliable at this site. If we can get enough boats here we'll hold races at this site also. Greg

Posts: 264 Long Island, NY | I've been getting a pretty good response to this from cat sailors like you. I hope this works out. We could have a regular racing schedule at that site with all the guys from central and western Long Island. Greg

Posts: 190 Long Island, NY | Hi again! I was on my way to a Sail Trim Presentation by Mark Washeim of Doyle Sailmakers in Huntington (another fellow catamaran owner and sailor, by-the-way) and I ran into a LICSA member! Mike Dagastino, his wife and children were in the Canterbury Ales restaurant-bar in Huntington while I was there having my meal. That was a great treat for me. I hope Mike's family and my family can hook up this summer for some fun cat sailing. If you read this Mike, send me an e-mail so we can stay in touch!
