Just wondering where a good place is to buy mast fitting(spreaders, hounds etc etc) in sydney as I have a blank mast that needs rigging up.

People are suggesting ahpc in melbourne but Im after somewhere closer and that has a website.

cheers

Will,

After looking around for a long time and having a frustrating time doing so I found that AHPC in Bendigo (central Victoria) was best for hounds. They are great for internet or phone orders and will have parts delivered in a couple of days. Just have to remember to mention that the fitting is for a Mozzie. Check out their website. http://www.ahpc.com.au/

The hound fitting has the lower hole for the stays and the upper hole for the trapeze wires. See the Mosquito website and go to the rigging picture gallery for an image of the fitting. Just have to remember to mention that the fitting is for a Mozzie.

As for spreaders, try AHPC again or try Goolwa Masts and Rigging in Sth Australia. I had details from Tim on another thread. Goolwa were a bit slow to deliver because this stuff is just small change when they have an urgent job elsewhere but the quality of product is great.

If you really want to use the local chandlers in Sydney try Whitworths for a start. http://www.whitworths.com.au/main_home.asp They stock most of the standard Ronstan fittings but it may not be what you want for hounds and spreaders . See if there are other local sources by asking the gurus down at Kurnell.

Regards,

Peter

Hi Will,

As I mentioned at the club, AHPC is your best bet. Greg will deliver quaility products for a respectable price and quick. His spreaders are awsome. We can talk in more detail at Kurnell if you like regarding exactly what you will need and how to do it. I can also give you a hand to fit out and have some tools that you can use. Bring a copy of the class rules with you when it is time to fit out.

As for a chandler, forget Whitworths..... They are not worth #$%@ for dinghy gear. Go to Boatrite at Taren Point. They are dinghy specialists (owner races 49ers) and carry all the good stuff..... Dinghy sailors wet dream.

Unit 6/21 Bay Road, Taren Point
They are not open Sundays so check them out on Saturday

I will add to the chorus and say that AHPC is the ONLY place to get this stuff. They have the mast base and pin, the hounds, the gooseneck fitting, the rotation arm, the halyard hook and loop. All made for the Mozzie mast. I put a new mast together earlier this year, and AHPC mailed me the bits in just a few days - and it was all reasonably priced.

Just phone them up (other than the few who live in Bendigo that's what the rest of us have to do anyway). I think I used the Bendigo number last time - 03 5443 6910.

If you can get them to make one up, GOOLWA MASTS & WELDING make excellent spreaders. Phone (08) 8555 0075 or 0414 552 038. As already mentioned, they are sometimes too busy.
